Hello, can anyone give me some suggestions? My steering wheel shakes with the car body, when the speed is higher, its more significant.
Some car information:
I did track alignment at about 3500 miles and now its 6500 miles.
I went to track 3 times and a few auto cross after track alignment.
Last Thursday I felt the rear of the car was shaking so I brought it to a local tire shop, they found one of the rear tires was out of balance. they fixed it and rotated my tires side by side. No shaking from the rear but started feeling some subtle shaking from the steering wheel.
I brought it to the local dealer this Tuesday and the technician did the balance again. Technician said nothing wrong in the test drive.
The shaking is subtle when the speed is ~ 70, and significant when >100.
Any suggestion for the next step? Is it caused by the uneven wear due to the track alignment? Appreciate for any help.
I would have an alignment specialist look at. It’s on thing for tire balance and I could see the possibility of a tire weight coming off (maybe). But the shaking has to be an alignment/tire wear issue if the tires are balanced property.
Did you take the service manager on a drive with you to re-create the issue?
The shaking is subtle when its around 70 and technician did not want to go higher than that when testing (they charged 180 for that so I assumed they really spent some time on it ). Next time I will ask the service manager sit on my side for a drive.
Tires should be balanced and they even put tape on the weight to secure it. I did one balance at our local reputable shop and another at the dealership.
I probably will go put my all season on and test drive before doing alignment again.
Check for chunks of rubber on the tread. I'll get a great amount of track rubber on my tires after an event that will make the car shake.
yup. cleaning it today. and swapped my all season set for a test drive, the shaking is almost gone. I think the shaking is due to the extra rubber plus uneven wear, plus slightly off alignment.
My 2 cents: Such shakes, especially if increasing at high speed, really happen with out of balance tires, suspension parts (like loose control arms), or loose hubs, etc. I think that was it. I deal with it all the time when my tires get out of balance at the track, and I've never seen it happen when my alignment was out of spec for whatever reason.

thanks. Dealership 'visual' checked my suspension and said all good. I will go check all the bolts that can be reached by myself.
Not really. but less shaking with my all season (thats another set before I did track alignment). I schedule a full service mid June to mount new tires, brake pads and do alignment again. I will post here if it can fully resolve the shaking.
