Hi guys - I'm looking for some brake pad recommendations. I daily drive my C8 and track it around 4 times a year. I don't really want to have to keep switching out the pads each time I track it and was hoping to find something that would split the difference between daily driving and track use. On my C7 I ran on some Stoptechs that I was recommended and was happy with them, and so I'm looking for something similar for my C8. Thanks!
Change them out before and after each track event. Its not that hard, doesn't take long and you will be able to run the pad for both applications. Do you run a different wheel set and tires for the track?
If you must use the same pad for street and track the OEM Z51 are not to bad. But the time you take cleaning the wheels each week you could change pads out.
Or try GLoc R10 they are not too bad on the street.
Thanks for the rec! I don't have a different set if wheels/tires and I drive up the track. When I swap them out, do I have to bed them in each time? It's hard to find a place to do that where I live - so that's the most painful part of the process for me.
Bedding brake new pads (never used) is to primarily achieve 2 things. 1. to get the pad to max temp to out gas any of the manufacture materials within the pad. Once this is done for a set of pads its not required for reinstalling the pads. You can even purchase this service from the pad manufacture where they will bake the pads to max temp before shipping to you. They call it prebedded and it run around $20 a set.
The second thing bedding is doing is to getting pad material to conform and transfer pad material to the rotor. Now this is required each time you install the pads. But to accomplish this 3 to 4 applications from 60- 65 mph to 20 is sufficient. If you must do it on the street and don't have a country road with no traffic then go to a highway with exit ramps or city ring road where you can go 60-65 exit and brake. Get right back on the highway and repeat at the exit. I have a small section of highway with exits 1/4" mile apart.
Some rotor and pad combinations are more robust to pad material transfer and swapping 2 different pad materials (street and track) and other are very finnicky. Since brake pads are a consumable experiment with different brands.
I'm using Hawk DTC 6.0s. Quite a bit of track use and street. I don't switch back and forth either. I'm using DBA 5000 series rotors. VERY happy with the pads. Occasional squealing but rare. Minimal dust too.
