I need to remove the engine lid on my 24 C8 HTC to repair a scratch. Their are two micro switches than need to be disconnected. With the lid in the open position can I disconnect the switches with out disconnecting the battery?
If I need to disconnect the battery what procedures do i need to follow?

Are you removing the "tonneau cover" then?
I would not recommend connecting/disconnecting any connectors in the any part of the wiring harness with the battery connected. But there is no special procedure to disconnect the battery - assuming you already know how to access the battery. With the car off, of course, just disconnect it. You may have to index the windows (including the rear window in the HTC) after reconnecting the battery. But your other stored settings will not be lost.

Yes. It's the tonneau cover that needs to be removed for paint repair.
Your information is what i needed.
Thank You.

There's one more thing. And I know very little about it other than it could be a potential issue. There are four "folding top control modules" , two for the tonneau cover and two for the top itself. When they move, they are communicating with each other doing a choreographed "dance" to insure that everything lines up at the right time. Forum reports suggest that this can get screwed up if you mess with the positions of those modules (the modules are combined motors plus electronics that control them and communicate with each other via the network). I think there is process for adjusting it if the synchronization is lost. The thing is, I do no know how sensitive it might be to slight position changes that might results when you remove and replace the tonneau cover. Here is a caution statement from a version of the Service Manual that I have.
"The folding top system is specifically aligned and positioned. Anytime it is serviced or any components are removed the system should not be
moved or it could be put out of alignment. When the engine tonneau is raised there is a pin to mechanically lock it in the open position. The
modules hold the tonneau in the open position so if they are removed the tonneau could fall closed."
So, if I were attempting this, I would want to make sure I fully understood the implications of this. Either by obtaining an up to date copy of the relevant service procedures, or by discussing with someone that has done this successfully. The version of the manual I have is old and not complete, and much of the detail about the folding top is missing.
This is more very good information. I am currently considering raising the tonneau cover to the service position, disconnecting the battery, pinning the raising scissor mechanism in place, removing the cable operated flip out head rest covers from the tonneau keeping the cable hooked up., removing the fasteners from the lift mechanism to the cover, and finally removing the fasteners from the hinges. The car will be powered down and top and the tonneau lift mechanism will not be moved until the cover is reinstalled and the battery hooked up.
I followed the directions in the owner's manual to purchase a service manual and was informed that 2019 was the latest service manual available.
Again Thank you so much.

The version I have came from ebay - was cheap - it was on a CD. But its 7000 pages long. I think they are still there, but may not have all the info needed. And they are not easy to use.
I have not used any of these - so cannot say much about them. Others on this forum have. The trick is to make sure what you get has the folding top details you might want.
Again Thanks so much.
I believe I'm armed and dangerous.
This event started with a fit of stupid when I scratched the paint on the cover. I haven't yet found information on how to fix stupid.
Have a great day.
The ebay version of the manual doesn't cover the convertible top. However someone on another forum posted the relevant information (attached). If there any attachments that can shift when the bolts are loosened I'd trace around them.
