Looks like you are in Mode 6 seeing the “$” sign…if you just want to read and erase DTC’s a code reader is fine which only reads those Powertrain codes…if you want to actually diagnose your car get a factory level scan tool like an Autel or Launch…how about uploading a screenshot ??
you youngsters don't know the pain of jumping A andB pins and counting the short and long dash red flashes to get the code or finding the EGR re-set or odometer flag @ 50k on GM cars
