So, recently purchased my 2023 Stingray, I noticed when I first drove it something popped up on the radio screen. Connection unavailable please call OnStar agent, I did this and they are telling me the OnStar module is bad and it needs to be replaced, of course the 3/36 warranty is up since it was an early 2023 sold in September of 2022. It's way below the mileage but one month out of the 3 years. I had a TBC on radio taken care of by a local dealer and a recall on the Gateway module update. So, they want about between 1000 and 1200 bucks to install the new module, that includes the 430 module. I bought it from a Ford dealer as is so they won't help me out even though when they traded for it the warranty still applied. Has anyone else had this module fail? The car is fine without it, but if I had an accident it wouldn't contact OnStar as it should, also all these modules talk to each other so there could be other things in the background that could cause other issues. I bought it for a very good price so the 1200 bucks is not an issue, but if the dealer I bought it from would have just pressed the button to OnStar as I did they would have found out that there was a recall, they could have taken it to the dealer for the update and then GM would have also covered the OnStar module, but they didn't.
I can't help but be amused at the horror that would come from not having OnStar available in case of a crash. It's almost like I've never had that "luxury" for my entire adult life, up until a few weeks ago. And I would love to remove all things CONstar from my car with extreme prejudice...but I know that would cause a host of issues.
Constar, I like that and fits perfectly. When I was searching for posts, I noticed someone mention OnStar collects data on your driving and reporting it to GM and possibly your insurance. When contacting them the first time you can request that they not report the collected data to GM or your insurance company. You mentioned something, until a few weeks ago. Did you have a crash? Or did I just misinterpret that line.
No, I mean that I've never had "the pleasure" of having anything with CONstar, until I got this ER. Between the back-door to Lexis-Nexis for your driving data, the infotainment trying to force you into using Android Automotive (vs. the simplicity of Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay), and a host of other curious design omissions--I stand by what I surmised about the ER a couple of years ago, before I actually got mine: If I could get the ER powertrain and HTC in a car with the aesthetics designed by Lexus--I'd be happy.
I'm actually surprised how much I like the CT5 interior vs the C8 interior (superwide screen, ambient lighting, 3-spoke steering wheel, etc). It's a shame we can't get an upgrade.

Yeah. The telematics module prevents your car from contacting OnStar when you don't have it.
And, from years ago on Kids Say the Darndest things, hosted by Art Linkletter, a kid said "Sugar is what makes oatmeal taste bad when you don't put any on it".

Is you Nav working? Also, how did you call OnStar? Did you use the button on the car? If so, at leas some of the telematics functions are fine, because it use the built in 4G connection for that.
GM is having issues with this “Onstar” telematics module with recent updates.
My 2023 GMC Sierra currently has a failed telematics module and a CEL that comes a goes.
The truck is out of BTB and they want $1900 to replace and re program the module…..
There’s no affect in driving or mechanical systems though. But I loose remote start and the date and time stop auto updating when the CEL is on.
I had to call OnStar, they are the ones that told me the module was bad. Then they transferred me to tech support at GM. I have not tried Navigation since I figured it was tied to OnStar. Yes the blue button was the first thing I hit to start my OnStar subscription. My local dealer updated the radio which was a TBC, then a Gateway Module update which we were hoping would possibly fix the issue, that didn't help. So, now they are going to run diagnostics on the OnStar module this week.

If certain functions are still working, it might help you determine if you really want to spend money to have the telematics module replaced (the telematics module is essentially the OnStar module)..
The telematics module may have totally failed, or only partially failed leaving certain functions still active. If you are able to contact them via the button in the car, and/or if on-board Nav works, that would mean the telematics module is partially working. I was suggesting that you try the on board nav to see if it still works.
How did you call OnStar? Did you call OnStar with your phone or did you contact them by pushing the button on the overhead console? If you were able to call then through the car connection it means its partially workiing.
And Nav is tied to the telematics module. That why I asked if your on board nav (not to be confused with Waze or CarPlay) is working. If it is, it would also confirm that part of the telematics module was still functional.
Called on my phone since the Blue Button continued to try but failed to reach OnStar. So, that does not work to contact them. Remember I talked to OnStar, they told me the module failed, so did GM Tech. I didn't make this determination myself. No, I don't want to spend 1200 bucks. Car Play is not working, but I haven't had the opportunity to try Nav except on my phone when its plugged in.
