You guys probably think that Brandon guy is a dick and only has 590 subscribers on YT, but......

He got his Z06 and was driving it on the freeway over 70 mph in 44 degree weather and the oil temperature didn't go above 133* until he tried to get it higher. Then it only went to 138*. Water temperature was 172-178*.

If ya wanna see it, here ya go:

So after all of his rants about how flawed the car was, engine vibrations destroying things, transmission cases cracking, GM has no idea what they are doing but he can help them, etc... he still ran out and bought the car? lol

This dude burned any credibility he had, I couldn't care less what he manages to get on video, he isn't a reliable source for anything.

I don’t think it’s his, it’s his friends. I’m guilty of watching sometimes purely for entertainment purposes… similar entertainment to watching a train wreck.

Oil temp only gets up to the mid 130’s while driving on the highway in 44 degree weather. According to the video, manual specifies operating oil temp should be at least 175. Definitively peculiar, would be interested to see if other Z06’s do this as well.

I know everybody thinks he’s a nut, which he is… but how do you explain the car in this video only getting oil temp up to 111 to the mid 130’s in 40 degree weather on the highway? He has other videos besides this one were the oil temp is even lower than the video posted here.

Is there something wrong with this particular car or is this how they all operate? Can somebody more mechanically inclined than I explain this?

The Engine Coolant needs to get to 175F to check the oil level at idle, not the oil temp. The C8Z was designed to keep the oil from getting too hot (over engineered) when on track on a 100 degree day. My 09 Z06 had a dedicated (air to oil) oil cooler, and when driven on a cold day the oil temps were similar. I had to switch my 09 Z06 oil cooler to the ZR1 (oil to engine coolant) oil cooler in order to get the oil temp up to an acceptable level. Later (after 09/10ish) Z06s used the ZR1 style oil to coolant stye oil cooler.

TLDR: As designed.

What would be wrong with it?

Got it… I was wondering if it was the coolant temp instead of the oil temp… manual is a little bit confusing to me in that regard. I admit I’m not nearly as mechanically inclined as many of our members, so I appreciate the detailed explanation without the ridicule. Thanks!

Yeah, the temps he he quoted are about 3-4 minutes after start up. After that, 178 is typical running temp, like clockwork at those temps with tame driving. He is just a moron who looked at the temp before it even warmed up....
