Of course, never use an impact wrench to break loose or tighten lug nuts. Use a break over handle to loosen and torque wrench to tighten and damage shouldn't be much of an an issue. I sometimes spin them off or on with an impact but no more.

Note that every sock, including the various non-marring ones referenced above, will have metal to metal contact on the lug nut surfaces. The plastic will protect the tip of the lug nut, and the inside of the hole in the wheel. But if you're trying to prevent marring to the hex surfaces, there's nothing available. I'm not aware of any plastic sockets designed for 140 ft lbs of torque.
As some of you did, I spent money for the black lugnuts and would like to keep them unmarred.
