My house is in a cellular dead zone. I have to drive about a mile to get one bar of cell coverage. For OTA updates, does my 2025 Z06 download updates automatically when I drive into cell coverage? Or does it have to be parked in cell coverage to download?

This is likely how we will get our fuel/fire fix. Radiator fans will be programmed to turn off when the fuel door is open……..assuming there’s a sensor that shows it’s open.

Don't think there's a sensor on the fuel door, would cost GM too much. Likely a timer or a line that shuts them off on engine turn off or turns them on as needed.

I just did this update the other week. No issues with doing it thankfully. I have a 2025 and it's my first time having to update the car.

I checked the update that the car wanted to install is GM 624.30. Which says “Improves Frunk latching performance in cold. The download said it downloaded but never install it? The crazy part is I went into my settings to previous updates and it says no updates to install? lol WTF.

The fuel door is activated and has an actuator to open the fuel door when the key is present and not to open when the key is not present. There must be some comm to the onboard ECM that tells the fuel door that the key is present. I’ll bet a dollar that it can also tell the ECM that the door is open as well.

The fix for the gas fire is already described by GM as a flap that will divert the spillage away from the area they suspect causes the ignition. No electronic components or programming involved.

Pretty sure you will lose that dollar. The fuel door just locks and unlocks with the doors. There dosen't appear to be a sensor on the door.

I got an update notice last week but I ignored it bc I was not at home. Haven't seen it since. Am I now supposed to go search for it? Only get one chance to do it?

You can go into your settings check for the update and force the install rather than wait. I just set it to start immediately and exited the car once it was in my garage. It installed with no problems.

Thankfully only a dollar. #1 way to not catch fire, don’t be a dumb a$$ when fueling.

Maybe, but just like everyone blamed the frunk flying open on the owners, there was an underlying issue that GM fixed. So there is an inherent flaw that's leading to the fires, and not just dumb a$$ owners.

I think I remember similar driver blame on the GM ignition switch debacle that resulted in quite a few deaths. We seem to be conditioned to blame the owners instead of manufacturer defects/design flaws in a lot of cases.

Looks like repair parts are not available for this recall so be careful out there

Further, Chevrolet.com states this about OTAs, "
  • To be eligible for vehicle software updates, including automatic Super Cruise®* driver assistance technology map updates (if equipped), you must have accepted the connected vehicle User Terms for Connected Vehicle Services and OnStar Privacy Statement for the vehicle"

There's nothing forcing the owner to accept the connected vehicle user terms & privacy statement as a condition of the new vehicle warranty.
GM’s record on “privacy”’ is not good. Several years back a journalist took GM to task for “updating” their privacy policy that according to the article, once accepted, gave GM permission to do whatever it wanted including selling or giving driver’s information to anyone for any reason.

When the SmartDriver fiasco broke which resulted in lawsuits and the Federal Government banning GM from selling customer data for 20 years. Before the Feds dropped the hammer GM claimed that customers accepting Onstar terms & conditions allowed them to take, package and sell customers data. The Feds disagreed…

However under GM’s new Google arrangement the infotainment system requires you sign into Google and accept those T’s & C’s if you want to use any of the features like Navigation/Google maps. There is nothing from the Feds preventing Google from selling customers information.

And round and round we go. At least with the German manufacturers they have to adhere to much stricter EU privacy laws. They may not be enforceable in the US but hopefully that gives them guidance to go by…

I understand the world as it exists and I’d rather take my chances on “being responsible” for something because I didn’t allow an OTA than accept GM’s Terms & Conditions… but I haven’t seen anything in writing in the manual or any other paperwork that says I “have to accept” OTA’s or GM may refuse warranty claims… and if they really want customers to embrace OTA’s… drop the “agree to Terms and Conditions” requirement.

Warranties are covered by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and are regulated by the FTC… they are not solely at the discretion of the manufacturer.

Also recommend making sure your android auto, or apple carplay is not connected before you start the update.
Turn off the bluetooth and wifi on the phone. (or just shut it off for 5 minutes)
I have had Android auto stay connected to the infotainment and drain the battery.

PSA these updates reset the ECU for any DTC. Don't do this right before a state inspection, as you'll fail OBD readiness.
