The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I think I remember similar driver blame on the GM ignition switch debacle that resulted in quite a few deaths. We seem to be conditioned to blame the owners instead of manufacturer defects/design flaws in a lot of cases.
Looks like repair parts are not available for this recall so be careful out there
Yet, software updates are not listed anywhere in the recommended maintenance schedule outlined in the owner's manual.
Further, Chevrolet.com states this about OTAs, "
- To be eligible for vehicle software updates, including automatic Super Cruise®* driver assistance technology map updates (if equipped), you must have accepted the connected vehicle User Terms for Connected Vehicle Services and OnStar Privacy Statement for the vehicle"
There's nothing forcing the owner to accept the connected vehicle user terms & privacy statement as a condition of the new vehicle warranty.
When the SmartDriver fiasco broke which resulted in lawsuits and the Federal Government banning GM from selling customer data for 20 years. Before the Feds dropped the hammer GM claimed that customers accepting Onstar terms & conditions allowed them to take, package and sell customers data. The Feds disagreed…
However under GM’s new Google arrangement the infotainment system requires you sign into Google and accept those T’s & C’s if you want to use any of the features like Navigation/Google maps. There is nothing from the Feds preventing Google from selling customers information.
And round and round we go. At least with the German manufacturers they have to adhere to much stricter EU privacy laws. They may not be enforceable in the US but hopefully that gives them guidance to go by…
I understand the world as it exists and I’d rather take my chances on “being responsible” for something because I didn’t allow an OTA than accept GM’s Terms & Conditions… but I haven’t seen anything in writing in the manual or any other paperwork that says I “have to accept” OTA’s or GM may refuse warranty claims… and if they really want customers to embrace OTA’s… drop the “agree to Terms and Conditions” requirement.
Warranties are covered by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and are regulated by the FTC… they are not solely at the discretion of the manufacturer.
Turn off the bluetooth and wifi on the phone. (or just shut it off for 5 minutes)
I have had Android auto stay connected to the infotainment and drain the battery.
