We pickup our Z06 on Saturday and cats is high on the mod list. Who makes decent cats and/or test pipes? Does anyone sell just the cores so I could dismantle the OEM ones?
I recently picked up a set of Milltek high flow cats from one of the vendors on the forum. No check engine light after around 100 miles and two weeks. Got them installed by the dealer and they charged me for 3.5 hours.
I’m quite surprised at how much louder these made the car in track exhaust setting. I’d read reviews and heard others talking about it but hearing it in person is definitely a nice surprise. I back my car into the garage so the exhaust is facing the primary living space, but a cold start is now loud enough I’m having to adjust pictures on the walls inside the house that have gone crooked from the vibration at startup.
I've done a ton of different High Flow Cats on the Z06 - Milltek, SOUL and Fabspeed.
I think the Milltek are tough to beat for the $$ considering they include heat wrap and a quality cat core. SOUL and Fabspeed are great too however I'd avoid the cheaper options.
Personally wouldn't go with test pipes as you'll deal with potential CELs, raw gas smell, emissions issues etc.
HF Cats are IMO the perfect set up with the OEM exhaust - adds just the right amount of volume.

Nothing to be had except noise. Some test have shown a power decrease.

I’m ok with little to no power increase, but like the increase in sound. I’d offer that engines are pumps and if you increase efficiency at the intake and exhaust the result is power gains.

Wow! I didn’t know that was the case. I’d love to read more about these tests, could you please share the info so I can learn more? Mine certainly doesn’t seem to have lost any power.

Check out Youtube vids. Higher flow cat do indeed make power.
Probably a silly question, but are you able to pass emissions test with high flow cats?
Not a silly question at all, I had to do the same research. Check your state and local laws but in my state and county (MO/STL) I can. This was the deciding factor for me going high flow cats over no cats.
Awesome, thank you. I will have to do the same here in NC / CLT. Did you compare the amount of emissions gas allowed (whatever the metric is), compared to what the cats allow? Or does Mo only check for CEL and/or by plugging into ecu?

Complete Street Performance has a video on You Tube same day, same dyno power loss changing stock converters.
Running 100 cell HJS cats from Kline coupled with their rear section- 300 miles on my second 3LZ with no CEL... I did get random CEL's on my 24 Coupe though via 3000 miles or so.
Do yourself favor by adding 45 degree angle 02 spacers when u install your cats. Space is really tight and its good idea to prevent future headaches. My miltek flagged cel at 2600 miles. I was a fool to believe this "no CEL promises"
