Nope. The guy I rented from has a business doing this. He has multiple high end cars that he rents on Turo for premium prices, so it's just a business transaction. The car is insured by Turo, secondarily insured by my auto insurance, and tertiary coverage by the credit card I used. And it's a 2026 low mile car that is all stock and under factory warranty. For all I know, he is probably leasing these cars and using the lease as a tax write-off against 1099 income.
So he was super chill about me taking the car and doing the mountain road drive that I wanted to do, putting loads of miles on it and keeping it overnight at my house.
Gotcha, I thought they monitor for more than 20 over through GPS.
I currently have a 2019 A8 Z06, and one of the things I really like about it is the low RPM torque. I am considering a trade to a new C8 Z06, and have been looking at engine specs. With the peak torque and HP coming at much higher RPMs I am curious how "weak" the engine feels at lower RPMs, and I know that gearing can cover some of this. And I am not the type to go seek test rides at dealerships just to run the car hard to see how it compares. So here I am asking this group. Anyone here that went from C7 to C8 Z06s care to offer your experience?
You just don't drive it at those rpms much. I am in the habit of switching modes, something I picked up from my last c8, when I want to accelerate hard so this doesn't bother me much. Switching to the z06 was easy because of that habit I picked up from my stingray. I switch to tour for cruising and I hit the z mode button, which is set to track mode, and I switch to manual shifting when I want to accelerate or drive fast.
Actually people talk about low rpm torque but it's really the delay from the automatic transmission in tour mode that is bad. If the thing would just downshift already, the low rpm torque wouldn't matter. If you're in track mode or in manual mode, it doesn't matter.
Also, if you drive this car, you will understand that you do not want to drive it at low rpm. First of all there is an annoying drone between 2k and 3k rpm so you just don't want to drive there at all ever. There is no torque under 2k so there is no point in driving there. So, you're basically going to be at 3.5k and above if you aren't cruising, and there is plenty of torque above 3.5k. Finally, it's faster and sounds better the higher the rpm. You're just going to rev the thing every chance you get anyway.
You will never short shift this car. You will always downshift to the correct gear to accelerate. The car will just motivate you to do this.

The Z06 ain't weak at any level in my humble opinion! However, the lack of low-end torque is noticeable. I solved this easily by installing a Soler Throttle controller.
There are several active threads in the forum about throttle controllers including my comments on the huge increase in low end responsiveness and performance I found after installing one on my car. Check it out!

Florsheim Imperial Wingtip throttle controller.
Easy install, wireless and guaranteed to work.
Free from the wayfar back reaches of your grandpa’s closet.
Comparing to the Stingray, the Z06's lack of torque is apparent only the first couple thousand RPMs which is over in a blink and feels natural (not gutless) whereas the SR's initial shove feels truck-like. SR is also pretty quiet and drama-free in those RPMs where Z's angry sound consumes the cabin with drama. After that first split second the Z's torque feels indistinguishable from the SR--probably thanks to the gearing. And that difference in torque feel completely disappears in 2nd gear and up because you upshift straight into the Z's healthy part of torque delivery.
My move from SR to Z reminds me of when I went from my stock BRZ to Edelbrock supercharging it. After that upgrade, torque felt like it was less than stock for the first few hundred to couple thousand RPM. Then torque stepped up in a hurry. The Z's Helmholtz resonator creates a supercharger-like positive displacement effect by increasing volumetric efficiency by 10%. The resonator chamber takes a few RPM to pressurize while the Z's raucous engine and exhaust distract/entertain you with angry noises.

It's not really an auto, it's a DCT, two very different things. I'd never own an auto C7 (since the manual is available), but the DCT in the Z06 is a perfect match to the engine. And even in Tour mode, the car will shift lightning fast if you give it enough throttle input; you just need to learn what that input level is. Or you can override the shift with the paddles even in auto mode.
I found myself driving it like a teenager all over the place which after a while got tiring. If you DONT like excess attention? Steer clear of the LT6.
Driving it under 4k rpm is very boring and bland and you will be downshifting several gears while on the highway if cruising along to pass with any type of authority or maintain a slight grade even at 75 / 80.
Tradeoffs here and there but I do not regret buying the Z06. It was great to experience and then to realize that the fpc hi rpm thing is not for me. If the car was turbo'd (ala ZR1)? I may have had a different experience because I love low end torque coming out of my 2 different C7Zs prior.

Is my foot on the floor not sufficient? I don't know about your car but in my car there is certainly a delay.

Yeah that is annoying. I'm usually in Z mode which has most things on sport with the exhaust full loud.
Went on a road trip with my girlfriend recently, set up my mode to be quiet and soft and drove it like that. So the transmission shifting was in tour as thats all my mode does. On a two lane road, went to capitalize on a passing zone, gave it some gas and it just wasn't downshifting at all..lol. Super surprising since I'm just not used to tour mode at all. After a few seconds of WTF I just floored it and it got its **** together pretty quickly.
I didnt realize how much better sport mode is with the auto downshifting logic. Tour is basically only good for steady state cruising on the highway.

Turo does have a policy that says going 20+ mph over the speed limit is excessive speeding and qualifies as a prohibited use, which can result in your trip being cancelled.
However, Turo does not monitor the cars, the hosts do. The host has to monitor the car's telemetry and report any violations to Turo, which results in them sending you a warning to stop speeding before they can cancel your trip.
So it's completely host dependent. This host's reviews were all excellent.
If a host reported me for speeding I would have written a review that said something like "Host reported me for speeding. Would not rent again. Other users should think twice before booking".

Both my Z06s have been fairly responsive in Tour for downshifts. I can twitch my right foot, and the downshift is very quick (sometimes quicker than I really want in Tour). My 24 I had since new, so if there's any "learning" of behaviour, it obviously learned me well. My current 23 I got with 4500 miles on it, and if anything is even more aggressive on downshifts than I remember my 24 being. I've never once felt like I was waiting on a downshift while in Tour with either of them. I will note, that "foot to the floor" while cruising might seem delayed as the DCT is often doing a multi-gear jump on the downshift (i.e. if your cruising in 8th at 70, and do WOT, it's going to downshift likely to 3rd gear, which can also be a little slower as it's having to use both clutches as you're jumping from an even gear to an odd gear.
Test drive an E-ray and the Z06. I test drove all three including the Stingray. The low end power of the E-ray is impressive. I purchased the Z06 and have no regrets. You have to stay above 2500 which is very easy to do with the DCT and LT6!!!
Well, here I am with an update. First, I truly appreciate all your ideas, experiences, and suggestions. And I usually like to think I make choices based on logic and objective thinking. But sometimes thru the years, (at 77 yrs old), I cave into emotion. Like getting a case of "new car fever". And I did this time also. I found a 2026, 2LZ, Red Mist car, with options I liked, sitting in a showroom about 30 miles from me. It is now in my garage.

Beautiful!
Same age here so I feel qualified to say “you done good”.
My ‘26 is white and I have those exact same wheels. I go back and forth every other day whether to change the lugs to black or leave ‘em chrome. If that strikes you one way or the other let us know.
