Default C8 Z06 Ring time- want to see GM Z06 - under 6min44sec?

I’m dying to know what Z06 can officially achieve at the Nurburgring . Porsche rules that track and all their sports cars are judged ready after official times. It’s not hype but makes a great dynamic solid car if a car rules the Green Hell.

The GT2RS made over 700HP and GM sampled that and Ferrari 488 and 458 Italia.
With 670HP and big-time aero downforce and CUP R tires and Mike Rockefeller, or a German ring-master i betcha Z06 could be under 6mins 43 secs. I hope Chevy pursues records as they are ruling GTLM.

I think you guys might be underestimating the C8 Z06 in terms of mid-engine balance , 670hp and aero performance with those massive CUP R tires. They will be lucky to be within 10 seconds of that time and I'd be happy with mid-7:50s. I don't think they have very good gearing in the C8Z for the 'ring with all the high speed sections in the 130-180 MPH range. As others have mentioned, they need to tighten up 4th, 5th and 6th gears and just have 7th and 8th for cruising/gas mileage.

Interesting they couldn't get a time they would publish in their days at the track but Ford got a time and published it for the Mustang GT 480 HP car, albeit 15 seconds slower than a Civic Type R, haha.

Chevy rules GTLM against their team car and one privateer connected with Porsche. Three cars in a class don't make for bragging rights in racing.

The days we saw the Z06 at the ring were industry pool days. Manufacturers aren't supposed to publish the times for laps during industry pool events for some reason. It's probably a safety thing, since there will be a variety of cars on the track at the same time, wouldn't be too safe to have someone out there in a crazy car trying to run hero laps while dodging traffic.

I hope Chevy really truly goes for it at the Ring. The entire mid engine chassis and suspension and aero and Z06 670hp engine are incredible engineering feats. Chevy wants to kick *** and compete. I think given the Z06 package spending the effort to get and post a ring time for marketing media and most importantly to reward the C8 team would be fantastic . Z06 with Z07 package tuned has to be lower than 6min45 seconds.

Ferrari and Mclaren often can’t be bothered to post ring times. They could but decline and say its the experience. Ive driven dozens of Porsche GT3s, GT4 and the window maker 2011 GT2RS and the GT2RS ………..the C8Z06 is right up there in the big-leagues. Next spring I hope and expect Chevy to post a really really fast ring time. Like to see our Tadge smiling at the end with the time along with the driver and team just like Porsche Motorsports Ag.!

Oof 6:44 will be VERY TOUGH. I honestly don't think GM is capable of hitting that time, especially at it's weight? Now i know why people wanted a lightweight Z.

Perhaps high 6:5x is possible but even then idk. I say 7:03-7:04.

That would make it 10 seconds faster than the outgoing z06? That's still very good if you as me.

There’s a big difference between testing for data in traffic, with a passenger and making an official lap. The Ring is basically rigged for Porsche anyway as they’ve bought out Weissach (imagine Corvette buying Callaway and them calling it a production car) but Perhaps the team is back there next year for an official go.
6:55 would be the target, and I think 6:54-6:55 is completely doable with Z07 and CF wheels.
Having said that I’d rather see her tear up the courses here.. I want to see a hot shoe take her around VIR, Laguna, Road Atlanta and Barber.

Edit: I meant Manthey.

If they do get a chance to go for a timed run, the Z will be in production colors and trim. Like every other Corvette that has a published time. With that said, I'll say mid to low 6:50's.

Are you sure that you are not confusing Manthey Racing with Weissach?

Weissach has been the R&D center for PAG for a very long time.

https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/company/weissach.html

Manthey Racing have a lot of experience at the Nurburgring since they support the Porsche Works Teams that race at the Nurburgring and related VLN series venues.

I hope the C8 ZO6 matches that time but, currently the AMG GT Black Series is the second fastest vehicle on the ring at 6:43. An out of production Porsche GT2 RS (Manthey Racing) holds the top spot at 6:38. The kit on the GT2 RS can be purchased from Porsche for around $100K US. The AMG is approx. $325K.

I hope the best for the C8Z06 for lap times however aren’t we’re still waiting for an official ‘ring time for the C7Z06 from Chevy? I hope they at least quickly supply a car to SportAuto to make a run at it. With that said, I don’t see it matching or beating the 991 GT2RS on any track given how much lighter the RS is, among other reasons.

7:00:00 IMO

A few things work against the C8Z vs the GT2. 1. Weight. GT2 is lighter. 2. Power: GT2 has more. 3. Gearing. 4. Tires. Tadge specifically said they are getting their fastest laps at the end of the tank of fuel. What isn't said is they are sacrificing a bit of one lap performance to do that. Porsche is not.

Remember, the C8Z is really competing with the GT3 or GT3 RS. I think it might be possible for it to do a 6:54-55 and that would be a huge win. Then have the ZR1 come along later and step on Porsche and Mercede's necks.

There is no doubt the C8 ZO6 plays with the GT3. Both are NA, have well appointed interiors, and extremely large bandwidth. You can go to the track in both vehicles or drive them across the U.S. The GT3 RS is a different animal. It has one purpose, and that is to rule a track. It does this by using light weighted materials (glass, carpet, sound insulation...etc), and probably has an equipment delete option. This is not a vehicle one would drive across the U.S..
If, memory serves the GT2 RS, C7 ZR1, and 720S are the three vehicles that did battle during the Lightning Lap. I don't think the ZO6 or the GT3 RS are in that group of vehicles.

When he mentioned GT3 vs. GT3 RS I believe what he meant was 992 GT3 & 991.2 GT3 RS. While I agree that the RS is and has always been a different animal the new 992 GT3 was quicker than the out-going RS (as it should be) and I believe that is the TRUE target for Chevy, not the 991.2 GT2 RS, not the new 992 GT3 RS (which looks absolutely mental and will probably be quicker than the GT2). My hope is the Z06 is quicker than the 992 GT3, I would consider that a "win", anything between that and 7:00 would be disappointing, and anything slower than 7:00 would be a waste and they might as well just not announce a time at all.

I expect Chevy to be back over here in the spring for more testing and a few more attempts at a lap time, hopefully announcing it around the same time as pricing.

Your Porsche GT3 shows the difference, brake calipers at 4 o'clock F, 8 o'clock rear, On the C8Z they are 3 o'clock F and 10 o'clock R. It's a small difference but a detail to get the CG lower. done throughout the car. That said, I expect the C8Z to be an amazing car.
