IMO, you have to start with price and then compare what's out there with a similar price.
Compare the Z06 against 300k cars for fun if you want but if someone is going to buy ONE car only, you either have a real money constrained budget to work with or you set an arbitrary budget no matter what you can ultimately afford.
Most comparison tests use base price with an "As Tested" disclosure. I think we can agree that you could option a Z06 to 180+ but if it's a performance comparison, use $130k for a 1LZ Z07 and then get all the cars in the 110 - 150 price range and see what happens.
GM doesn't compete in the 300k price range for a reason. People are having a really hard time with a 120k Corvette, can you imagine one for 300k?? Or are we already entering the acceptance phase?

I've yet to see the proof though...

I personally wouldn't mind seeing GM come out with their own competition package for the Z06. It'd be something like... the Z07 package plus a roll cage, manual fixed back buckets with harness accomodations, most 'luxuries' stripped out where ever possible for weight savings, adjustable rear wing etc
There would absolutely be buyers for it.

They’ve toyed with the idea in the past. This would be the car to do this on.

Again, do not know if it would be financially smart of GM to build such a car...but can you imagine the lap times a car like that could produce!

Z06 is more comparable to regular GT3, although GT3 is more track prepared than Z06. Corvette GT3R indicates that Chevrolet is now developing a street legal track-oriented car in parallel to GT3 program for sure.

I think everyone should watch the entire video. Porsche's intent with this car is TRACK...followed by TRACK....and more TRACK. The Porsche guy was VERY clear about that, going as far as to mention the GT4RS for street and mountain roads. The RS's spring rates are 50% stiffer than a GT3...
I would offer that, much like a C8 Stingray AND the Z06, the GT3RS is in a class by itself. I don't think the Z06, with any mix of options, is a competitor for the GT3RS.

Then something like (for example) the Z06 - R and that would basically be more of a stripper....lighter materials, manual race seats, roll cage, harnesses, hardtop only with a slight bulge for helmet clearance, even more aggressive aero, trunk delete, minimal comfort, more aggressive suspension setting, more aggressive gearing etc...

I am a little disappointed that the Z06, especially with Z07 and aero, is getting harder and harder to obtain. I don't think the supply issues will be fixed any time in the near future. I guess for a while I'll have to live with my cheaper-than-a Z06, 6 year-old ACR that only ran a 7:01 at the ring (on tires nowhere near the Cup2Rs) and only retains a handful of the 13 track records it originally set at US tracks - but that's life.

Z06 vs gt3 rs not same money wise.
The new RS seems to be a serious machine....but why waste money on it just buy a cup car.
Also soon you will be able to buy corvette race car....which is a awesome car also.

For me personally I chose the ZO6 for it’s beautiful exotic looks and hopefully reliable factor.
I can afford the Porsche, but few seconds faster in the ring doesn’t really impress me.
i Am totally ok if someone thinks and says GT3 Rs is better sports car,
I’ll be spending half of that cost and get twice as good looking car ( in my opinion)
I showed pictures of the gt3 and ZO7 to my Girlfriend, I said witch one should I go for ?
her answer was, are you kidding me ?
I knew what she meant 😉

These are "Vanity Cars".... trophies for rich guys.... and yes, they may be tracked a few times at a Country Club racetrack, but once you start modifying them for serious track use, they quickly lose their resale value.... most of them still end up being sold with 1,200 miles... flipped like last month's mistress...

This was more of what I was talking about. You have the Z06 as a great GT car with Track Capability. The Z07 package which is still a good GT car with better track focus.

I think we need to rename this forum Porsche Forum. I wish we had another sub section of this forum to discuss “other cars.” Oh wait…
I learn more about porsche hear than I do any Corvette.

It is GMs fault for basically being radio silent all this time. There is nothing new to talk about regarding the ZO6.

The difference is you said that type of car SHOULD be the Z06....I said that type of car COULD be an OPTIONAL variant of the Z06.
I think people forget how many variants of the 718 and 911 that Porsche makes! Not counting the Convertibles as a different variant I count (19) different models you can choose from. Corvette has basically has 4-6 different models (pending on how you are counting). A very track focused car that competes directly against the GT3rs is certainly doable...BUT...to make that the only variant in the Z06 Model would be financially foolish and GM knows this.

A “C8 vs…” subforum for comparisons of all the C8 variants vs the competition would be nice.
