Detailed Analysis of the C8 Z06 vs the C8 Stingray at Laguna Seca

Seriously? So, 14 years ago you were on the track with guys that, no doubt, don't work there anymore and you didn't identify WHO they were (there's LOTS of editors at a magazine).
Think you could get a C7 ZR1 to within 2 seconds of Mero's best time at VIR Grand? Well, one of the C&D editors did...

I have probably far more very competitive SCCA/IMSA racing miles than any of their editors. My current street C6Z with HCI and basically stock non-mag suspension running the last day on the front R88Rs at Willow Springs did the same lap times as a C7Z with full mag suspension and brand new Hoosiers. I also road raced a NASCAR Taurus at 3030# and 605 HP, so have a good amount of track seat time in high HP cars on track. I also have 12-15 hours of track time on the main VIR course, have not run the Grand Course that C&D uses (they run that so their times can't be directly compared to those that actually race).
That said, I've raced enough against high level competition to know there are always people faster that I am. I never won an SCCA National race, but did get a 2nd place 5 seconds behind Eliot Forbes Robinson when he was driving the Bob Sharp Datsun, so not too shabby. I have a lot of respect for Jim Mero's driving capabilities.

Let him nitpick. The car should be able to be held up to scrutiny after the hype GM has built around it. A fresh set of eyes who aren't already in love with the car would be nice, so they can see it objectively.

If randy says the trans is slipping, pretty sure he knows what he's talking about. If he says it's not as quick, or at least not significantly quicker than the C7Z, pretty sure he knows what he's talking about. If he says the gearing is wrong, pretty sure he knows what he's talking about.
We need unbiased PRO drivers to really test this car. Last thing we want is a bunch of fakes saying this car is the greatest and it's not.
I mean as long as we love the car that's all that matters but putting our own personal insecurities aside, let the people really beat on this car and tell us the truth about it.

Christ sake, now Randy Pobst is a Porsche guy?
Here's a link to Randy's wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Pobst
Google tells me Jim Mero is an engineer and test driver of sorts...

You're probably the only person on this site who doesn't know who Jim Mero is...which explains a lot.
Well, here he is setting the production car lap record at the Nurburgring in 2011 and the VIR Grand Course record in 2019.
As far as Pobst, look at EVERY video of him doing Motor Trend tests where a Porsche is involved.
PS. Jim is retired now.

I would like to see Speed Phenom at LS with the Z06. If he has the track record for the C8 Stingray, his best time with the Z06 will be interesting.

From the Speed Phenom Laguna Seca video
The car Austin and Ron are driving is a Z07 so it has Cup 2R's on it
The WET weight on a 1LZ Z07 with CF wheels will be 3,634 pounds (full tank, all fluids). That is NOT an "official" GM weight but rather taking the KNOWN 3,434 pound dry weight and adding the weight of the KNOWN fluid capacities. Not hard to do.
IMO, the C8 Z06 will handily beat ANY C7 Z06/Z07 lap time. Better aero, better transmission, better traction, better tires, etc...

While I can appreciate your enthusiasm, the information you post on the wet weight of a 1LZ Z07 calculation can be done, I believe it is relevant to note that each sticker in the car is different and that the car you attacked me in a different thread showed 3703 as the wet weight of a C8 Z06/Z07 3ZR with Carbon Revolution wheels and no front end lift. The last part is very significant to note because without the front end lift, if the C8 Z06 is anything like the previous generations, the difference in weight between a 1LZ and 3LZ has been less than 30 pounds. If we take the maximum difference in previous gens (We will say it was 30 pounds) that makes the car 3,674 weight as opposed to your calculation. Taking 40 pounds out of the car can be easy with a battery swap, but I do not think this car is as light as your calculation,

If I am Randy, I would of course favor Porsche because how seriously they take sending press cars with a team, different sets of tires for road and track, wheels, making sure car is functional, etc. Remember C7 Z06? The car going in limp mode multiple times? Then they sent another car a year later except it had worn tires? Its sloppy after sloppy execution. Simply GM doesnt take it seriously. Porsche does.
Porsche releases a GT car, usually the first video of it being driven is Lars or Kevin in Nurburgring followed by proper journalists like Chris or Henry. None of this youtuber nonsense with Emilia and Speedvenom, both are barely legal to buy alcohol.
How do you think this looks to a professional racing driver? See it from his eyes, from his perspective.

Says the guy with GT3 as his avatar...
And it's no excuses, Pobst has not been kind to Corvette over the years, finding faults that no other journalists find. That's just a fact. So, you love him...great. I put a lot more weight in Chris Harris thoughts (whenever that happens)

I have a deposit on a C8 Z06 allocation... which is why I am on corvette forums.. Do you have a deposit? Are you even interested in buying?
Further, I'm here for the car, not to placate to you or anyone else here who feels intimidated by gear heads coming over from other brands..... time to get over it ladies.

Speed phenom has neither speed or is phenomenal at anything. He's a rich nerd who does trackdays. Kudos to him for making the Youtube thing work though.

Even if he doesn’t need it as an income source, it seems to be serving him well when it comes to his hobby. I’d love to have early access to the Z06.
