So back in May I bought a US Vette into Toronto. Took the car to a shop to have all fluids changed and also installed 4 brand new tires.
Barely drove the car all summer, 3 weeks ago, I took the car out an noticed a leak in tire pressure, also my tire sensors are reading the wrong tires (i.e left is right and right is left - front only).
Since the tires were installed an bought from the shop, I took it back to them to see what was wrong, also have them correct the sensors.
Today they tell me the car is ready and I have to pay 1 hr labour for them to fix the computer so its sync properly with the proper tires.
Do you guys think this charge is appropriate?
My thought was that the tires were bought and installed there, all this should have been done correctly the last time I was there.
What kind of Shop is it? GM Dealer? Not too many places have the fancy "magnet" required to re-learn the sensors. And if all they are doing is re-learning the sensors tell them to Jam it, it takes 5-10 minutes. If you do a search on here, you can read how to do it yourself with a strong magnet.
Well when I dropped the car off, I left them my number. I got a call to tell me the car was ready. So I jokingly asked, I take it this is a free service call since I bought the tires and installed them there. Then I got the fee. They mentioned to me that the sensors have nothing to do with the tire install.
Is this correct. I know its only 1 hr labour and I do want to develop a good relationship with this shop.
So let me get this correct the cost of mounting balancing and installing all tires, resetting and calibrating the rear sensors correctly but calibrating and installing the front sensors is extra charge?
Did they fix the leak for free and are just charging you to fix the sensors on the front wheels? It sounds like they just installed the left rim on the right side and visa versa when they remounted the fronts.
Unless that is they are saying the sensors were reversed prior to them working on the car.
I have not picked up the car yet because I havent had time.
They didnt mention any cost in terms of the tire leak and I definitely dont expect to pay for anything regarding the leak.
Like you said, when they installed the tires, shouldnt they know which sensor is for which tire. I will definitely challenge them on this as their response over the phone was we just installed the tires as is and the sensors is another issue in itself.
I just dont understand what they did the first time they installed the tires. In my opinion, all this should be free of charge.
I am thinking all they need to do is put the right to the left and the left to the right. I dont think this is an hours work rotating two tires.

Any thoughts??
No need, get yourself a magnet and do it yourself. Print out the instructions at this PAGE and relearn the sensors yourself, 10 mins work.
