I am also in BC. You will need an inspection for import (canadian tire) and a BC safety inspection. If you live in the Vancouver region you will also need Aircare.
I brought up a new Z06 with 2 kms on it, on the mso, that had never been registered and had to get a safety. The guy looked at it and said "what a waste of f...ing time"
It sounds like a big hassle but their isn't much too it. Well worth the savings....
I live in the GVRD but cars that are within 7 years of the current model year are exempt.

Do you, or does anyone, know about warranty? If this car is still under warranty will it be honored in Canada? I think the answer is No, but i'm not sure.

Your car will have full warranty here AFTER it reaches 12,000 kms on the odo and has more than 6 months service length. Until then, you still have full warranty in the US. I own 3 Z06's and the oldest is an 02. None have ever been back for warranty.

I bought a 2010 GS from the USA 2 months ago with 81 miles on it and no issue on bringing it in . The car was never titled so I am the 1st owner. At a saving of $ 30,000 its a no brainer even if I got no warranty. A short drive across the border and the dealers there have no issue on doing warranty work. I will put the required 12000 km on it before the year is up.

Really!? How does that work? This car I'm looking at bringing back has about 24, 000 km's. So Canada will offer warranty on the car without me doing anything? Is this for sure? At what point does the warranty run out?

GM dealers all over Canada are all importing Vettes with less then 15000 km to sell at their dealership. Our local dealer imports all his Vettes from the USA its logical thats how they can make the big bucks

concerning warrenties...

I bought an american '08 from a canadian dealer (southern ontario).
When I took the car into a dealer (northern ontario) for warrenty work the dealer told me to contact the selling dealer and give them the following QUOTED information...

(1) NOTE: The customer is to contact their purchasing dealer and inform them to perform an "ELECTRONIC CLUSTER CONVERTION, LABOUR OP X4423 AS PER HOME OFFICE LETTER 2006-704R01"
The northern ontario dealer informed me that NO warrenty work would be honoured on my vehicle until the above action was performed by the importing dealer.

I called the importing dealer with the info; they apologized for their oversite and corrected the issue immediately.

by the way, this has nothing to do with the cars speedo or gauges, it is just the way the information is worded.

You are good to go then. Your new car has been in service for over 6 months (it doesn't have to be in Canada) and it has over 12,000 klicks. If it is an 06 you have no warranty but if it is an 07 or up, you have a 5 year/160,000 km (100,000 mile) powertrain warranty.
Good luck with your new Corvette!
Post some pics.

Grant, another twist and question on the warranty topic. A number of US cars have GMPP extended. So if the car comes across with a GMPP of XX months and XXyears is that also all honored after the usual 6 months and 12K by CND dealers........??

No. If you buy an extended in the US it is only good in the US. GM doesn't even want you to have a US car here let alone give you warranty.
My point is, if you have something major, blow a motor, you can always take it back over the border and you are good.
When I brought in my 07 from the US (new) it needed bumper mods so the local GM dealer did it. They wanted to put it in their showroom and said that warranty would never be a problem.
I kind of feel cheated as I had a 99 new, still have an 02, 07 and 08 from new,and have never had to use warranty.

I will be importing the vehicle myself, or using a broker who will just do the same thing I'd do (if i don't want to deal with it) - so who would I be contacting regarding this letter? The original dealership?

Also, I've read you can get that recall letter for free somewhere, how do I get that?

Is that 5 years from the date it was made on the drivers door? Or 5 years from purchase? The car was made in march 07, so I'd assume it's got at LEAST another 8 months of warranty (8 months would be march 2012).

thanks. I made an offer on the car, will post pics if/when I get it home.

I just get them from my local dealer for no charge. Take them the VIN and make sure they know you want the recall letter and not service history.

Warranty starts at the in-service date.

You probably won't need one.

Once you import your car and get the Form 1, wait a few days and check the status online with the link provided.

When I imported my 07 Z06 a few months ago, I found out that my recall clearance passed without the letter. I called them to confirm and they told me that they're starting to do some research on their end.

Hmm, what if I do need it and assume I don't. would it be stuck on the US side until I provide it?

You need one but not until you do your RIV application, border doesn't need it. They may offer to take the RIV fee at the border but you can do it after you have the car home.

Check where your local RIV office is. If it's close enough you can drive there with the paperwork and fee and leave with the form that CTire needs.

At the border you just do the US export and then the Cdn import (and pay the tax).

Shane,
That will be 5 years or 100,000 miles from the original date of purchase by the original owner. The in service date. You can take the vin to any GM dealer and get a VIS report on the car. It will tell you everything from the day your car was made. If you have a problem, contact Gene Culley on this board and he will email you one.

Don't forget the pics. Nothing like seeing a low cost US Corvette get by GM and come to Canada. I saved $30,000 on my 07 and a little less on my wife's 08. I was sitting in the office of the owner of the local GM dealership here and showed him how he could buy his parts from Kevin at Partstaxi.com for less than his GM cost. He was pretty hot. Actually, really hot. GM hasn't seen the ball since the kickoff and think screwing Canadians is their right.

+1 they don't like us buying new stateside. Case in point, today I went by a Chevy dealership I usually never visited nor are they a usual Vette seller. There I see what appears to be a new looking torch red coupe. As soon as I get out the car a saleguy is over. Says its on sale for $60K. Say's its a 3LT with NPP and I then see indeed the US speedo. Has 200 miles on it. Then was told the owner of the dealership bought it in AZ.......

$58K is MSRP build price on GM.com so forum dealers likely selling new for about $47K.......dealers are smart too but come on GM your dealers are importing too... ..
