Corvettes are what they refer to in the business as dual conforming. No need to worry just get your recall letter and be careful about buying an 06 z06. Some of them have lamination issues. Also be careful about purchasing from a private seller. Rule of thumb is "Title in hand".
wrong. the speedo converts to metric, so it will show itself in kilometers as does the tire pressure , fuel mileage etc, hud as well.
I have an 07 Z06 from the US and everything on the dash converts back and forth with the push of a button. The only thing you might have to change on the car is the daytime running lights to full time so that you can't manually turn them off, depending on the inspector. Most (inspectors) can be fooled. There is even a child restraint loop under a cap in the back and the airbag stickers are in french and english.
Lots posted on this but you also want to check out www.riv.ca
Take your time, be very cautious on where how you purchase because titles in the U.S. can get cleaned by registering them in different states. Check the car fax etc to verify registration dates mileage etc. Hopefully you find a one owner car with title in hand as it does help the process somewhat. Good luck. ...Oh and don't spend $250 on the recall clearance letter. The GM store in the U.S. can provide a printed page off their GM systems stating no recalls exist on the car etc.

My local dealer gives them to me for free. They'll also give me all the service info for a vehicle I'm interested in given the VIN.
also, it must go through BOTH a RIV inspection AND a provincial inspection? or just the one?
i can imagine you getting screwed by canadian tire. would that mean you'd have to have front plate attached and couldn't have side window tint? would you have to return and have it re inspected for an additional cost if it didn't pass?
wow, i did some more digging and it looks like in BC you need federal, provincial and riv inspections.
Expect items such as windshields with a 1 in. crack, leaking mufflers to require replacement before you can pass. All lighting must work, horn, wipers etc. This is typical safety stuff but the standard is so loosely worded virtually anything can fail you. For example:
Any tears in driver's seat cause a failure (buy a snug fitting seat cover)

RIV is to check if it meets Federal regs, the other would be the regulat provincial safety, so yes, both are required plus emissions test if your area has it.
The way to figure it out is that completing the RIV process makes it a USED Canadian car. So once that is complete you have to do the same to get it plated and driving down the road as if you'd bought the car from your neighbor.
If your local used vehicle auto certification center wants mint seats then that's what you need (or find another place).

If i bought a car from my neighbor i'd walk in a local auto plan store and pay for insurance and they'd hand me stickers and plates and i'd walk out and drive away. no inspections or anything of the sort happen, no one even sees the car.

So no vehicle certifications or emissions testing where you live? You don't have your location in your profile so I have no idea where you are. Here in Ontario if you buy an "as is" car you need to get it certified and emissions tested in order to transfer the ownership and plate it.
Although all readings digitally convert, the speedo will still only show 200 on an american car versus 320 on the canadian car. As well the actual guages will show in metric in Canadian car

We have emissions tests on cars every couple years. So if the car you were buying was to be done in 9 months from now and you purchased it today, you wouldn't have to take it in until then. However, all cars newer than (i think) 7 years old, are exempt all together until they reach that age. I'm in BC, btw.

So when you switch over to metric in an american car, it'll switch to km's but will only read up to 200 kp/h? That doesn't sound right unless I'm not reading correctly.

The actual speedo guage reads to 200 on an american car. Its not an issue for importing. One thing noone has mentioned. I don't know if things have changed but when I importing a 2007 C6 (in 2007) the bumpers had to be modified to meet canadian standards. Its possible this has changed.
