Hi, I want to buy a buffer to put on and take off the wax from my cars. Can anyone recommend a good one? My old arms can't do it anymore. TIA.

I have a Wax Master buffer (you know, $20 at Wal Mart) and it is great if all you want to go is take off wax. However, I recently got a Porter cable PC7424 dual action polisher and am starting to learn what detailing is all about. If you are serious about things, go for a PC.

Applying last step products (waxes or sealants) isn't too demanding, but if you want your car to really POP, use a PC (Porter Cable) with your choice of polish (Optimum, Meguiar's #80, Zaino Fusion...). You won't belive that you settled for anything less.

Definetly get a Porter Cable 7336sp from Lowes for 99 bucks. Then I got my pads and backing plate from www.properautocare.com. They are a great tool.

Porter Cable 7424. You will also need backing disc and foam pads.

You can get everything you need at autogeek.com for reasonable prices.

Portercable is what you want, and we sell it alone or in two kits, please see the link. I suggest kit or you will need to purchase pads and backing plate seperately. Good luck.

I recently came to the same realization, and bought one of the Porter Cable kits from Autogeek. (Fair price & fast shipping.) It made all the difference for me. I like the PC because it makes it easy to put on a uniform coat of whatever product you use, and works it in well. All you do is guide it around the car surface.

I researched polishers and pads for 3 months and the results pointed to buying the PC kit from Autogeek which I did and with the Forum discount it made it an overall excellent deal. I used it on my truck first for practice but got the hang of it in the first 5 minutes (don't use pressure, let the PC do the work), I then used it on my '82 Vette, applied 3M rubbing compound, then 3M machine glaze, washed it all off then applied 2 coats of NXT, the result is absolutely beautiful, I got many, many compliments at the Route 66 show this past weekend.

I think if you are SURE that all you want to do is to apply and remove wax, than any $20 buffer from Walmart would be fine.

But as mentioned above, for all the extra expense of the PC7424, what you'll get is the ability to remove some very light scratches and swirls, waterspots. It's not a magic wand - only the lightest of scratching will be removed, but it's nice to be able to do that on your own, in addition to applying waxes.

Depends on what you want. Hell, $20 or $30 is so little that you might want to get one of those things first, and buy the PC later on if you decide that you'd like something a little more aggressive.
