Just purchsed a set of used thin spokes, and on one wheel I noticed a scrape probably from a wheel weight. Looks to be on the clear coat only. What can be used to remove the clear coat from the wheel? How can you tell if your wheel is clear coated or not? How can you tell the difference between chrome and a polished wheel? Any help is really appreciated!
Polished have a cloudy or milky look to them. If you wheel is not clear coated the cloth you use to polish them will turn black. I just removed the clear on mine
I used a chemical paint stripper and some MEK. Methyl Ethyl Keytone,
and polished them with some mothers on a polishing pad on a drill. 0000 steel wool and mothers works OK on the barrels but it would be very hard to remove the clear on the front like that, it is pretty thick. It was a major pain to do.

Thanks for the advise. I noticed you dont have any weights on the outside of your wheels. Does the factory place them on the outside? Thanks everyone for quick responce!

What effect does the chemical stripper have on the rubber?
