help!!! engine FILTHY
the previous owner of my c5 was anything but clean. it took me a month to get the old spice smell out of the inside and now i am working on the engine. i really love what some members pics look like and i was hoping that i could get some help with how i should go about cleaning my engine. PLEASE i am to embarrased to post pics or even lift the hood for my friends.
- Cover the alternator, etc. with foil or plastic bags.
- Generously spray the engine with degreaser or all-purpose cleaner (properly diluted) and let it dwell for a minute.
- Scrub heavily soiled areas with a brush and/or wash mitt.
- Rinse thoroughly, but don't saturate areas with sensitive components.
- (Optional) Use a leaf blower to remove most of the water
- Once clean, spray a waterbased dressing liberally on all plastic, rubber, etc.
- Start the engine again with the hood closed and let it run for several minutes to dry everything.
- Once dry, wipe down as necessary.
For dressing the plastics and rubber hoses afterwards, try Stoner's Trim Shine - just spray it on and walk away - great clean, mild shiny look that will last for weeks or months - no need to wipe it off or wipe it on. Very convenient.
