- Let the engine run for 2-3 minutes to warm it (not so hot that you can't put your hand down on it.

- Cover the alternator, etc. with foil or plastic bags.

- Generously spray the engine with degreaser or all-purpose cleaner (properly diluted) and let it dwell for a minute.

- Scrub heavily soiled areas with a brush and/or wash mitt.

- Rinse thoroughly, but don't saturate areas with sensitive components.

- (Optional) Use a leaf blower to remove most of the water

- Once clean, spray a waterbased dressing liberally on all plastic, rubber, etc.

- Start the engine again with the hood closed and let it run for several minutes to dry everything.

- Once dry, wipe down as necessary.

STAY AWAY from the area under the battery. This is your computer on the C5.

For product choice, I really like Simple Green - available at any hardware store.

For dressing the plastics and rubber hoses afterwards, try Stoner's Trim Shine - just spray it on and walk away - great clean, mild shiny look that will last for weeks or months - no need to wipe it off or wipe it on. Very convenient.
