Well I finally ordered the PC kit today that includes two of each orange, white, and gray pads. My 04 has 10k on it, is garaged, and I think in very good shape. It does have some minor swirls that I am looking to take care of. I have used Zaino since day one. My thoughts are to start with Menzerna. From what I have read, the IP seems to be the way to go. Do I need to follow up with another polish? Is the Menzerna FP the next step, or would ZPC be a better move, or nothing. If I did ZPC I would then be ending with a Zaino product before applying Z5Pro, which I then plan on following up with Z2Pro. Also a question on pads. Should I try the white pad first to see if it does the trick, or just start with the orange pad? I am sure I am making too big of a deal out of all of this, but by the number of posts similar to this I see that I am not alone. I remember how nervous I was the first time I clayed having never done it before.
Thanks.
Dont be nervous, you'll do fine. Just take your time. Always start with the least abrasive route first, to see if that takes care of the swirls. You can always move up. IP can be agressive, and can sometimes leave light hazing that needs to be removed with a finishing polish like FP. Z-PC is not agressive, but does work. If you have all the polishes you are talking about I would try FP (or Z-PC) first with the white pad. If that doesnt work, move up to the orange pad with FP (or Z-PC). If you're still not happy, try the IP with the orange pad. Corvette clear coats are typically hard, so dont be afraid to turn the PC up to 5 or so.
Here's a link to a good tutorial that may help you. Just be patient (it will take some time) and be careful with your tools. If your pads or towels touch the ground or anything dirty, set them aside and use fresh pads to avoid inducing more damage than you are correcting.
You could end with either FP or ZPC but I would recommend ending with the ZPC since it contains no oils and will leave a better surface for your Zaino to bond to and will probably yeild better durability on account of this.
OK, it sounds like I'll go with IP, followed up by ZPC. It will be a few weeks before I get around to doing this, but I will be sure to follow up with comments.
Thanks.
start with orange pad, MIP. You'll see that even with this combination, your progress will be slooooooooowwww.
I've also migrated a bit to using z-Pc as my final polish, because it does have a cleaner result, without leaving an oily or greasy surface that you'll get from 3M or Menzerna. Cleans off easier, so that with just a wipe of a towel you're ready for your Z5.
If you use Menzerna Final Polish, you'll have to do a quick wipe with alcohol afterward. Not a huge hassle, but a small inconvenience that you avoid if you use Z-PC instead.
The guys are properautocare.com have a Menzerna "get acquainted" package which packages the IP and the FP-II for about $25. It's less expensive than the two products separately.
