Bon Ami is an old trick for getting grime off windshields because it cleans them w/o scratching the glass. It's not a specific "glass cleaner". You can still get it at a supermarket or probably someplace like Walmart. I usually keep a can in the garage just for that reason.

Windex and fresh newspapers works wonders on mine. Newspapers dont leave streaks and with the non-streaking windex product it leaves them clean and visable.
Seems counter-intuitive since most newspapers are printed with a mineral oil based ink. It seems like it would smudge. Especially with a "fresh" newspaper that turns your hands black as you read it. But I'll take your word for it and try it with the morning paper tomorrow. Do you read the paper before or after, or is the freshness not that critical?
Works great on both my 1966 Convertible and 1995 Coupe. Highly recommended. Be sure you use a clean cotton towel that has NOT been washed or dried with a fabric softener. The fanric softeners leave a light residue on the towel and that goes back onto your windows.
