I`ve started polishing and it`s working good. I`m using menzerna ip/orange pad. some areas I`ve gone over 5 times and I still have some scratches. Can I use meguires #4 and then ip. I`m using a pc. On the meguiers it says it is for rotary only
Megs #4 is pretty harsh and you are not going to be able to break it down enough with a PC. If you can catch the scratches with your finger nail, a PC is not going to work to get them out. Depending on how deep they are, I sometimes have a hard time getting them out with a rotary.
Make sure you follow up the IP/orange with a FPII or 106ff and a white pad.
Sounds like you are working in one area, but you should find what works in one 2x2' area till you are happy, then more on to the rest of the car.
I`ve got the rest of the car real good. I am using a finish polish with a white pad. I just have 3 small areas that I can`t seem to get all the scratches. Overall I`m very happy with the results. This is my first time.
Theres really no harm in trying just about ANYthing out there - as long as it's done on one small area, and as along as you're comfortable removing some marring if it doesn't go well.
That said, I think you'll be disappointed if you try any polish MORE aggressive than MIP with a PC - this is the same point as GMBLACK3 has made above. What you may find is that super-aggressive polishes, when used with that machine, will leave a cloudy finish (aka "marring") because the PC doesn't create the friction and heat necessary to really work the polish down. So you end up with an "unfinished" result.
My suggestions: two choices.
keep doing what you can with the MIP/orange combination - it's ok to spend 2 hours doing one area. But if that's not working you'll have to admit the defects are above the PC's capabilities. (I really do NOT suggest stepping up your polish any further).
Go out and get a rotary - it will make short work of it for you.
Disclaimer: we have not seen the car, nor photos, so we are assuming that you have defects that are shallow enough to be polished out.
