So a guy came by on Saturday trying to sell me some meat out of a cooler on the back of his truck while I was outside washing the vette. Long story short, he told me that using Armorall on the dash will cause it to crack. I was kind of confused since Armorall is specifacally made for this. He said that he has had a lot of sports cars and always uses just a damp cloth.
I gave up on Armorall years ago. After joining the Forum, I've learned about Aerospace 303 protectant, this stuff is awesome. No glossy, greasy interior, it just looks new and it has a UV protector built in.
It's not as convenient since you can't buy it at Autozone or most other parts stores. I bought it from Autogeek, a Forum sponsor in the auto care section. They give a 10% discount to members. A bottle goes for about 15.00 but lasts a long time. And no.... I don't work for them.
As with most car related items, I'm sure everyone has their favorite cleaning products, but if it's good enough for Boeing, it's good enough for me. David

I used the Aerospace 303 for the first time this weekend. It looks great, not any of that shiny (or smelly) armorall residue.
I got it at Cabela's in the boat/marine department.
I always stayed away from Armorall on the dash or anywhere inside the car because I heard it was silicone based and that when heated up the silicon would evaporate into the cabin air and produce a thick greasy film on the inside of the windshield which is a real problem to then try to remove.

Any thoughts from the experts???
Yea,I've been around a few years and I remember putting the stuff on plastic and vinyl parts during the Custom van craze in the 70's ,it would turn things white over time even tires. Don't use the stuff on anything.
I have used Adam's VRT (Vinyl-Rubber-Tire) Polish on my dash. Its got UV inside and helps protect the dash due to its light sucking/UV sucking black color.
I use the Aerospace 303. I get it from a HIGH END detail shop here in town. They absolutely swear by it and I use it on everything. I think you would like it too.
Didn't get any. I grew up on a farm and my dad usually slaughters a few cows every year. I get about 300 lbs of beef from that. My chest freezer is almost empty but he has the cows in right now. Cost me about $2/pound....hamburger, steak, roast, etc.
Armor All used low grade silicones in the past which were found to damage some dash materials. Its formula has long since changed but I still would offer a couple of high end offerings from boutique that have better UV protection and look nicer and wont break the bank. No order of preference.
Armorall/Schmarmorall. There's too many "I heard" stories around here and whenever an Armorall discussion pops up.
My neighbor has a MINT 1984 (first year) C4 that he bought new. In all that time he's used nothing but Armorall on his plastics - including the "it will crack if you use it" dash - his seats and all weatherstrips.
His car has won many "best of show" awards for stock cars and he has the awards to prove it.
A couple of weeks ago I was telling him about the last "don't use Armorall" thread on this site. The usual "your dash will crack" warnings were in the thread.
He let out a big belly-laugh and wondered out loud, after 24 years of using the stuff, when HIS dash was going to crack.
Cummon people, stop passing on the anecdotal "evidence" and old wives' tales. If Armorall was as bad as you guys claim then how come they're still in business after many decades?
By the way, his PROOF is good enough for me. I use it on my C5.
I use Aerospace 303 and really like the results. I bought it at a local boat supply shop - it's a very popular product for marine use.
Its very popular in the aviation community as well. I've recommended 303 on this forum before. I've used 303 for years on my plane and we use it on the boat. In addition to the interior and tires application, it is an excellent protection for bare aluminum surfaces (i.e. engine). I'm sure Armor All has it's uses, just not on anything I drive or fly.

The old wives tales are just that! Not a single bit of scientific evidence or in most cases first hand knowledge when these accusations are being made.
I used (former tense) Armor All on the leading candidate for cracked dashes (240Z and later a 280Z) for over 12 yrs. on the 240 and around 5 for the 280, neither one ever had even a hairline crack. The reason I switched was that other products offered a lower gloss shine which looks more natural.
