I am going to get a set of chrome wheels and will clean them with soap and water. My question is what do I do to keep them spotless in-between washing. I am also going to use Mothers Chrome Polish. What do you think? Thank you :seeya
If your Chrome wheels are clear-coated, treat them like your paint and protect them the same way. If there is no clear-coat, chrome polish might be ok.
I've got Chrome rims on my Vette, and I've had them since almost as soon as I got my car when it was new. Since February 99 I have been polishing them with Zaino and they still look like brand new. No discolorations or any scratches at all. At first I was polishing them with a regular carnoba<sp> wax and they seems to stay dusty all the time. Since using Zaino the dust blows off when I drive the car. :yesnod:
I'm not surprised at the results that you received with a carnauba on your rims. Carnaubas contain a high oil content and this is what attracts the dust like a magnet to your rims.
As you noticed, the use of a polymer is a much better choice for protection. The fracture point of waxes is much lower than that of a polymer, and therefore the wax will not withstand the heat of the rims - in essence it melts/evaporates off and you are left with unprotected rims.
The polymer will definitely serve you much better in this situation. :yesnod: :seeya
