I bought a 03 Black Z06 and never realized how hard it was to keep the car looking good. I had the car detailed and they got rid of the swirl marks and spider web look. Now i decided to was the car again and the spider web line started to show back up.
So what i am asking some of the pros at detailing their cars is: what do i need to get rid of swirl marks and spider web lines? (buffer, wax, etc.....) How do i go about buffing the car without damaging the paint? (detailed step by step) Also, how do i keep this from happening over and over?
Its impossible to properly explain how to buff paint over the internet. Its really something that you need hands on training for. Or MANY hours of experimenting. There are a couple reasons why your swirls may be reappearing. 1- the detail shop used glazes/ fillers to hide the imperfections and the fillers and finally being removed revealing the old imperfections. 2- your washing technique may need some tweaking. Here is a pretty good video on how to properly wash your car, http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...your+car&hl=en

Sounds to me like they used a bunch of glaze to hide the swirls. To correct black C5 paint takes hours/days/weeks/months to get it right. The clear is insanely hard, yet mars easily. If you want to do it yourself get a Flex 3401 (random orbital). It won't burn your paint like a rotary. Get some quality polishes. I like the Menzerna SIP/Nano combo. Finished off with some 3m Ultrafina and you're good to go! Get good pads (Lake Country or Chemical Guys). Practice proper washing techniques to avoid the swirls in the future. Believe me, I feel your pain. I've had a black C5 for five years.
For some help on polishing your vehicle I would highly recommend reading our Detailing Guide and the Professional Detailer - Corvette detail. This professional detail gives in depth advice on Corvette's and has tons of great info.

So now my dilema is do I go out and buy all of this **** or just keep doing things the old way?? Since I have 65 coupe (base coat/clear coat) and a newer 08 which I hear has a very hard clear what the hell do I get???
The most important thing is to wash the car right. To use two grit guard buckets. One with clean water, the other with car soap. Apply no pressure. Use a groute sponge (Even Paul Dalton uses it**). Take your time. Use 3M 1200,1500, 200 Rubbing compund then 3m Swirl Remover. After this polish, then seal then wax.
