So, what about the Griots? I have an old Ultimate unit I bought like 7 years ago (from Autogeek) that will need to be replaced and I have heard pretty good things about the Griot machine.

All my pads should work on the Griot's, right?

i have an older Portercable 7424 that ive used since about 1995 with several hundred hours of usage an no problems................................ ..........ever! If you want to get started go ahead and buy the Harbor freight to learn on but save to get something better when time and $$ allows you to do so. Look at the forums at www.autogeek.net for a lot of good advise too!
Good luck with the new addiction aka hobby!

The new Griots DA has more torque than the Porter Cable and will not "stall" like the PC's do. I have used my PC DA for about 7 years but when I changed to the Griot's machine correction and polishing became much easier.the Griots machine comes with a 6" plate, I changed mine to the 5.5 to fit all my pads. Autogeek has everything you need.

If you have the $$ go ahead and step up to the Flex. I have used both and the Flex is better but almost double the cost.

Stick with the Megs, Griots, PC-XP,Shurhold or Flex. There is a noted difference in their power, build quality, and options. Don't skimp on a buffer especially when several are available for a little over 1 benjamin.

The Griots is a great machine, far more torque than some other offerings. Best part, it uses all the same accessories as the others some plenty of backing plates, pads, and such are available.

Polishes --- Menzerna, Wolfgang, or Megs
Waxes (traditional) --- Pinnacle, Dodo, P21S, DP
Waxes (synthetic) ---- Blackfire, Wolfgang, Menzerna, Four Star, Rejex
