Default Engine Cleaning

For those of you that have asked about Engine Compartment cleaning. I searched through the Archives and found a post that Mean Green 2000 had put a really good procedue in for cleaning the engine area. See below (with my modifications)

1. Spray down the engine compartment with the hose (I took off the fuel rail covers and made sure to get everything free of loose dirt and dust).

2. Then close the hood and start the car and let idle for about 5 minutes to warm it up and then shut it off.

3. Using Simple Green (Full Strength, no dillusion), amply spritz everthing you want clean.

4. Close the hood and go drink a beer (or in my case, wash the Fuel Rail covers with hot water and Dawn and let dry).

5. Next spray out the engine compartment completely.

6. Spray Armour All or equiv over those same surfaces. Avoid the belts and wiring. Use alot on the fender covers and the radiator shroud.

7. Close the hood and go and Spray Armour All on the Fuel Rail covers.

8. Open the hood and reinstall the Fuel Rail covers and your done.

Won't take more that 20 minutes and your engine will look like it just came off of the showroom floor.

See pics below.

Excuse me for just owning a lowly C3, so I do not know what frame rails are. But I was wondering do you cover up your alternator and other electrical components, or do you also wash and Armor All them too??

The frame rails are those black things that say corvette on them. Then cover the selonoids for the spark plugs and the valve covers.

And, you answer your question. No I didn't cover anything up, I just sprayed it all down. I tried to only Armour All the plastic pieces, trying not to get any on the parts that didn't really need any.

Any of you C4 guys doing this? I've been warned over and over again about spraying my engine with water because it can mess up the Opti-spark. But I sure would like to have a clean engine like that! Any similar tips from C4 owners?

Thanks

ok, since none of my C4 brethren wanted to step up on my last question, I just decided to move forward without you! :) I followed the directions given above and the whole engine compartment looks great! And, so far, the car still runs! :jester So hopefully I didn't mess up the optispark or anything else. I'm a little concerned that the surfaces my tend to collect dust more, now that they have been treated with Armor All, but the cleaning process is so simple that I probably won't mind doing it more often. While I was cleaning, I also did my shocks, exposed suspension parts, and fender liners, so that all looks great too! I'll try to post pics if I can ever figure out the process for doing so.

I hosed everything, but tried to avoid spraying directly in the area of the optispark..but this would only be an issue if you have a C4.

Those are fuel rail covers, not frame rail covers. :D
