I like black cars as that's all I've had. Have to clean them weekly and keep them sealed. My Corvette is not a daily driver though, but my other two black vehicles look just as good.

I love a clean black car. Mine resides outside. I have to really stay on top of it between washes. I use Zaino products because they work.

I just got a black c7. I have never had a black car before and I need suggestions on getting the micro scratch / swirl marks out. I tried the meguiars swirl remover and it seems to help but it looks like the microfiber towel i am using puts some marks back on it...ugg.

I don't mind buying the right stuff and equipment, just not sure what I need. Thanks!

Hello,

I am no expert. I learned how to do this by reading the articles here on Autogeek and listening to the recommendations. This is what I use to get the paint looking awesome on my cars.

Clay bar the paint before compounding.

I tried polishing without a buffer. It just doesn't work. So first off you will need a buffer. Many use the Porter Cable as a starter buffer. Others will chime in. I use a Flex buffer.

If the car has minor swirls I start with Meguires M205. Always start with the least aggressive pad and cutting solution. If the M205 doesn't do it I will move up to the coarser Megs M105 with a coarser pad. Between these two you should be gaining success in the look of the paint.

I will then finish with a polish. Usually Menzerna SF4500.

I then like to apply a some type of protective coating over the finish. I use Zaino products.

Good luck with your project.

Craig

No to a California Duster, you will install many micro-scratches! The best for Black paint is to compound/polish, then Ceramic Coat. I would want to have a hard coating on a black car!

Yeah, that is my plan to do some sort of sealant after all the paint is corrected. Looks like that Black Fire Crystal Seal is popular.

BFCS is a solid choice. It will give you great shine/gloss/clarity.
As a benefit, you can also use it as a drying aid. (yeah it works) (but do it after you have done the car properly. It's inexpensive enough to use every wash.

Black is awesome...for the first 5 minutes after cleaning it.
