Well this morning it happened..... FIRST SCRATCH. I won't get in to the details but I was in a hurry and f'd up.....
Anyway, it is on the top of the door, ~1/2 long and it does not feel like it damaged the fiber glass, just took the paint off.........
What do I do? I drove to work this morning (first time in the vette) and I was physically ill, I could not believe I did it..........

Re: Scratch...... HELP! (adolph)
YIKES!! It really depends on how deep it is. If the scratch is white the you have only damaged the clear coat. If the scratch is blue you are down to the paint. If the scratch is other than blue or white you have serious problems.
Let me know how what color you are seeing and I will guide you through the process.

Re: Scratch...... HELP! (adolph)
Hmmmm. If you're close to your car and you have some sort of lotion or oil rub it onto the scratch and tell me what color it turns. I hope it tursn blue. If it stays blue/grey then delete all posts regarding it and call your insurance company and report it as vandalism, LOL....
For now just check to see if it turns blue or grey.

Re: Scratch...... HELP! (adolph)
Hate to be a PITA, but can you zoom in a bit closer............ it appears to me that there is some grey in the middle of the scratch. To me it looks like bodyshop work.
Sorry!
C5's paint is incredibly thin. If it was a C4 under the old EPA laws I could tell you how to get it out. But the Clear Coat on the C5 is so small that you run a great risk of inflicting more damage than repair.

Re: Scratch...... HELP! (adolph)
I graduated in 1984 and I had one of the first Pontiac Fiero. And I was probably one of the first to scratch it as well. I got this wierd physically ill feeling in my stomach :U. It is no fun at all.
When you get ready to select a bodyshop let me know. It is one of the most important decisions you will make regarding your 'Vette.
Before you run off to the bodyshop (they can swirl up your paint if you don't choose the right one), consider repairing it yourself via touch-up paint & leveling via wetsanding & polishing. I've done it myself and it's a very easy process (just takes patience. It took the entire weekend). The first time I did it, the repaired area became 100% undetectable. Let me know if you'd like detailed instructions on how I did it.

Tony
The touch up part is pretty easy. However, C5 paint is verrrrry thin. The wetsanding involved in a scratch that wide is probably not worth the risk of negating any involvment of the insurance company by taking matters into his own hands.
Just got back from the local shop...... vette shop in the area.
He says $300.... told me they will completed disaasemble the door, fill it, prime it, base coat, clear coat and prep. ( I assume this means sand).
I have an appointment Monday..... a $300 mistake.......... :cry
