Default Bug Guts

Hey any of you guys found a really good bug remover ? We here in Florida have some pretty nasty bugs, and as of yet I have not come across one that I can say works satisfactorly. I read the most recent thread about the Gunk stuff, and although I have used lots of Gunk products in the past with success. I was wondering if thats the best out there or is there something that may work better ? Maybe I might be looking for something that doesn't exist. Thanks for any help you can give. :auto:

Stoner's Tarminator of clay works the best.

all you need with a good wax finish, no need for harsh chemicals. Just a quick spray and wipe as soon as noticed.

There are times in Florida when the bugs produce a very acidic residue.

You are aware of how "acid rain" eats away the resin system of the clear or top coat paint and leaves an "etching" behind?

Some bugs do that, and much depends on the time of day, the heat, amount of moisture, called "chemical reactivity", and like battery acid or bleach, will "eat" you finish.

I suggest that you obtain a magnifier, at least a 10X, or better a 30X and look closely at what you are trying to remove.

It may very well be that the "bug guts" are long gone, but the paint surface is "eaten", "etched", "history" and no off the shelf product, no matter what the advertising/marketing may say, it is not going to replace the required bodyshop trip.

Thanks for the great response to this point. Ketch you make a very valid argument. I will take your suggestion and take a closer look. Maybe what I'm trying to remove is just not possible. I agree the bugs here in Florida leave some nasty stuff behind. Thanks again guys! :flag

I keep both of my Corvettes' windshields heavily treated with RainX. This helps greatly in cleaning off the deceased bugs and their innards.

I use a bucket of any high guality car wash solution, mixed a bit stronger than what I use for a normal washing, and wash the windshiled immediately after each drive. This is a year-round procedure here in Florida.

I keep a spray bottle loaded with the same solution in the car for use while traveling.

So, there's really *nothing* the at-home car guy can do about "etched" paint? I'd like to avoid a trip to the bodyshop. Any suggestions???
