I have never used the claying process before on any of my cars. Does this process make a big difference? Is it extremely labor intensive? Are the results worth the time, $, and effort?
The claybar is the greatest automotive invention bar none. Yes, do it and you will thank yourself because after you are finished claying you will basically have a brand new super-slick paint surface to work on (polish/wax) :yesnod:

They aren't hard to use at all, and I can't imagine NOT using the Clay.

:iagree: Preperation is about 85% of a good finish.
Just be careful and use a lot of lubrication under the clay bar. And if you drop it on the ground - throw it away. I tear off a piece rather than using the entire bar.

Here's an interforum link to a clay bar guide I posted quite a while back. The one thing that isn't on this guide is the putting down of a towel below the car as MY2 suggests. I've never done that before and don't let my towels touch the ground, but I do like the idea. I have so much clay around that I don't have to concern myself with one or two drops. In all my years I've only dropped 2 or so.

claying is far more scary and intimidating than it is. Use the baggy trick, take and put your hand in a zip lock and rub the top of your car. Every stump or stumble can easily be removed with a quick claying.
** Worst experience -- I dropped one of Pinnacles Polyclay bars in the side vent of the Vette -- it took my friends antenna fished through the door (inside) to get it out. Since then.... I dont drop the clay while car is getting a shower
definitely one of the best things to come out as far as detailing a car. what you can't see that's on your finish...and the clay bar pulls it off safely is amazing!
in addition to removing contaminants...it makes your finish the softest feeling it's ever been. once some zaino or your favorite polish is on and it's done, touching it is amazing! slick as glass.
I used it for the first time last night and it was great. Very easy to do and easy on the hands becuase you don't have to rub hard. Some of the more stubborn marks took a little elbow greate but not much.
