thanks...or point me to a link that explains this
Get a 5" Professional backing plate hook and loop. Avoid the Meguiars plate the velco has very little bite and will allow the pad to move around exposing the plate.
Only use 6" pads. The weights are designed specifically for this diameter. If you use a larger pad it will adversly affect the performance. I got this from dealing with the engineers at Porter Cable.
I also like there newer 7424 buffer because of the ergo handle and light weight. I dont care much for the slow start feature however.
Porter Cable customer service can be a horrible but there equipment is very good. I

I just bought the 7424 with bonus kit from Coastal tool. $119 and it includes a hook and loop (velcro) backing plate and the 6" counter weight along with the 5" counter weight that comes with the machine.
I then went to CMA ( www.properautocare.com) and purchased two each of the yellow and white polishing pads ($8.95 each). The yellow will give some medium-cut action and the white a mild cut. I plan to finish each detail with a hand application of my favorite polish (I'm still experimenting here), so I didn't opt for a finishing pad.

I haven't had the chance to use the PC yet -- and you'd better believe I'm itching to get to it -- but my initial impressions are that I made a good decision here.
Hope this helps.
