Now even though others will argue left and right .... my ride sees more than it share of birdie doo-doo and it comes off without etching or marks. Maybe Florida birds are nonacidic creatures, but using a traditional carnuba product and weekly spray wax (Pinnacle Souveran and Crystal Mist) keeps it at bay and a quick spitze and swipe with Crystal Mist and its gone. Maybe their is a benefit to wax versus sealant, to each their own though !!
now this may sound odd, but i wonder if it is the color? my previous car, a black hyundai tiburon always wore tons of polish and wax ( i hate swirls, and black is a biotch for them). that car would get etched spots just as soon as the birdie stuff hit. i mean it, i could watch it happen, go wash it off and there it would be already. now my silver C5, of course it has always had nice coats of wax and now NXT on it, but i t never ever etched any spots w/bird stuff and i know some of it has sat for almost a day on it which would have made a huge spot on my black car. ive noticed several red and dark colored cars w/etched spots but not many silver ones....and its not that they are there and hard to notice, they just plain arent there.

I had a spot of bird etching on my new ZO6 the day after I bought it. It's a tiny spot and it won't come out. I'm afraid I'll ruin the clear coat if I try any harder to get it out. The one thing that I did notice is that there were two spots of bird "sh!ttamus" next to each other, one left the etching, and one didn't. They were both applied at roughly the same time and were not allowed to stay on the car long. The one that didn't leave the etching was the typical mostly white mixture. The one that etched the paint in no time flat was a yellowish concoction of poop. So beware of the yellow drip of doom.
