I had some bird crap on my hood and when I washed it off I noticed it had etched into the paint, do I have to clay bar the area or is there any other way to deal with this.
This problem only happens with Zaino, am I the only one that noticed this, it's not just bird crap but other things have caused blemishes in the surface that caused me to have to break out the clay bar

Only happens with Zaino????????????????????????????
What are you saying, Zaino attracts crapping birds?????????
The blemish (etching) you see is probably NOT in the paint or Clearcoat but in the layered Zaino, which apparently has done a good job of protecting your paint & clearcoat.
you might want to try a 50/50 mix of water and distilled vinegar before claying.......sometimes this will do the trick and you can avoid claying (unless you need to clay the entire surface anyway)...
I agree with the above. Zaino protects, and doesn't attract bird poopie. I hope it's not to deep of an etch. If it is I would live with it. I wouldn't be wearing out the clearcoat to go down to it's level. My .02
Runamuk.........same thing happened to my hood (E/B)....
I'm not sure clay will get it because the bird s*** got my clearcoat
I'd try some 3M SMR if the clay won't do it....I don't think it will completely eliminate it but it sure did a good job of "hiding" my spot.
Good luck.....and does'nt it just suck that the paint is so soft
This has been widely discussed on many detailing forums, and yes it appears more prevalant with Zaino. What seems to happen is Zaino "traps" the etch within its sealant. What does that mean , time to remove and reapply. (keep a bottle of 70% alcohol and 30% water as it removes all sealants quickly)
Now even though others will argue left and right .... my ride sees more than it share of birdie doo-doo and it comes off without etching or marks. Maybe Florida birds are nonacidic creatures, but using a traditional carnuba product and weekly spray wax (Pinnacle Souveran and Crystal Mist) keeps it at bay and a quick spitze and swipe with Crystal Mist and its gone. Maybe their is a benefit to wax versus sealant, to each their own though !!

What is 3M SMR and where do you get it. I've got the infamous "Avion Depositus" etch into my hood.
This thread has become somewhat comical and scientific all at the same time, I used the bird doo doo as a good example because this just happened 2 days ago but the last time I had this happen was when the cat walked across the hood, I had paw prints that I had to clay bar out of the hood
Well its not just Zaino I have been a Zaino user for along time and love it but i went with Meguires NXT ( I love it ) but did notice a place where a bug or something left a yellow spot on the paint i tried to get it off but no luck. I then clay barred it and it still would not come off. Now I need a new paint job!
Have the same problem with my 97 coupe. I purchased used and had a large bird crap stain on right rear quarter on top of fender. I have tried clay bar twice and it hasn't worked. Any other solutions - except re-paint ?

Aha! Was it Zaino? Because, if so, this would be SCIENTIFIC proof that not only does Zaino attract birdpoop but cats as well!
Bird crap (Birdimus crapimus) will eat a hole in a metal car let alone a Vette. So will Coke.
Clay bars do wonders.
Bugs and birds can definitely trash paint if they're left on, but beer is the worst. A couple of years ago someone pitched a half empty beer at my parked SVT. I washed the car the next day and every beer splash had etched its way into the paint. This was on a Meguiar's Gold wax job.

I lower to the level of Bird poopie either
most likely in layer of zaino?...then why clay bar? unless it is in the clear coat. hmmmm
