Dawn should do the trick, then use a clay bar on the glass. Use an old clay bar, not the one you would use on your paint.

I tried Stoner's twice and it was the worst glasss cleaner I have aver used.

As far as the original question.........it had to do with an oily film on glass. All the products mentioned so far will not remove that oily film. The only product that I know works is from the Wax Shop and is called Oily Film Remover.......it smells great and is safe enough for tinted windows. Works great even on glass that is not oily.

For non-oily glass, the best product I found (and pretty inexpensive) is Sprayway Glass Cleaner (comes in a blue and white can). I always thought this was cheap stuff. An art framer uses a different version of this brand for cleaning art glass.....I used it on windows and was great. When I ran out, all I could find was the cheap blue and white can...better than sliced bread! However, if you have that oily film, I would use the Wax Shop product.

Default Clean Glass

The Invisible glass product is very good. No streaks and affordable at Wal-Mart. Oily residue on outside glass is a pain, but if you have oily residue on the inside of your glass i would wonder where it is from and and how it gets there.

Go to your local ACE hardware store and spend $2.50 for a can of Sprayway Glass Cleaner...you will not find a better product at any other price. Can't beleive that this thread does not mention Sprayway....on other threads, Sprayway was king.

As for the oily film. It comes from the plastics releasing gases---the only place for the gases to go is onto your windshield.

~One man’s opinion / observations

Caution: do not use products that contain ammonia, as it is very harmful to vinyl, plastic and rubber. It will cause plastic to ‘yellow’ and become clouded and it will also turn Mylar (plastic) window tint purple.
Cleaning Exterior Glass:
Application Methodology:
·Wash glass surface to remove dirt, dust and etc
·Stoners Invisible Glass™ and #0000 steel wool will quickly and efficiently cut through the toughest dirt
·Apply clay (Magic Clay®) and lubricant solution (WooliteTM / Water 5:1) onto the glass surface (Do not apply to plastic as dulling may occur.)
·Before cleaning door glass, open the widow half way. Clean the top and the leading edge of the glass as these usually sit in the door window tracks.
·Wash off any residue from glass and dry with a damp waffle weave towel
·Before you clean the vehicle exterior mirrors use a `shot' of canned air to remove any water from the rear of the mirror housing and avoid any water running on to the paintwork. Use a non-abrasive glass cleaner (Stoners Invisible GlassTM) on the mirrors
·Apply 303 Wiper TreatmentTM to the wiper blades to clean, restore suppleness, eliminate wiper noise or `skipping' and to avoid glass smearing
·Use a California Water Blade or clean damp 100% cotton Microfiber towel to remove water from glass or plastic surfaces

Maintenance- Stoners Invisible GlassTM, Iz Einszett Glass Cleaner (Scheibenklar), BTI Chemicals Plexus® Glass Polish & Cleaner or Iz Einszett Glass Cleaner (Scheibenklar) are all safe for use on tinted (Mylar) glass
~Hope this helps~

Default Thanks to All

Hello,

I want to thank all of you who posted suggestions on how to remove the oily film from the windows of my Corvette. I tried Stoners Invisible Glass and Sprayaway. Both products worked perfectly. Now the windows sparkle and the film is gone. Again, the Covette Forum came to the rescue.

Merry Christmas,

Old Lt.
