Default Window Cleaning - Help.

The windows on my 2000 convertible have an oily film on the outside and inside. I can't seem to get them clean. I've used most of the over-the-counter products and nothing seems to cut the film. I even used a compination of water and ammonia and dried with newspaper, but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Although I've read some critical things about this product in the forum, I've been using Stoner's "Invisible Glass" and have had very good results.

I don't know what "critical things" can be said about Invisible Glass. I've been using it for a long time...around the house, as well as on all cars...and think it's the best! We use it so much we order by the case!

I use Stoner's Invisible Glass all the time and love it.

But if you have an oily film on your glass you might try using Dawn dishwashing detergent to cut the oil. Of course that will also tax the wax off your car, too, so be careful.

Another thought might be vinegar and water.

If none of those work then try scotch and water. It won't clean your windshield, but you won't care any more either.

There has been quite a bit of discussion on this in the past in the Car Care Products section of the Forum. You might check over there. Good luck!

Another happy Stoners customer here! The trick is to use one micro fiber towel to clean, and a bone dry clean one to buff.

I use Stoner's with newspaper, and buff with microfiber.

Lt,

I spent a year using Stoner's Invisible Glass and I was never able to get a streak free glass that lasted more than a few days.

I have changed over to Eagle 20 - 20 glass cleaner in the past 5 months and I am pleased with the results.

Good luck with your decision..

Merry Christmas everyone.

I've heard good things about the Stoners. In the meantime, a microfiber and some Isopropyl alcohol will remove the film.

I had a film that just wouldn't quite and vinegar and water did the trick. Don't forget to do the inside too.

Looks like I'm going against the tide here, but I never had good luck with Stoners. Maybe we have a resistant grade of road grime here, but it never got my windows completely clean.

I use spray Dirtex now, available at Home Depot.

It cleans well with one application, and no streaks. It has ammonia in it though, so it may not be safe to use on all window tint films (no problem with my Quantum tint).

I had some reading glasses once that were spotted like someone had been welding with them. Tried everything to clean them and nothing worked. Took them to eye doctor, they sprayed and wiped with paper towell and they looked like brand new. 4 parts water 1 part alcohol.

Use just plain water and a Micro fiber towel and it will all be good.

I'm a Invisable Glass user but you might try Goo Gone. It won't hurt the glass and takes most everything off.

Good Luck,

Dan
