Just got a Craftsman air compressor for my birthday this week from the family. It was unpacked Sunday but I did not have a chance to set it up and use it.
I took a quick look at the book and it is big.
Any quick start tips so I can get it going right away before i read the book?
Happy Birthday....... Is it oil free? That you can just plug in, turn on and go. If it's not, check and fill oil as needed. Make sure the belt is on and adjusted and away you go. I'm sure you will find many uses for it.
Ah, air tools!! Lets see air ratchet 3/8". grease gun, air chuck(don't get the one that sears sells that's plastic, it fell and broke before I had a chance to use it.) Die grinder, air drill, 1/2" impact gun, paint gun, sand blaster, etc. If it's oil free then put the wheels on that baby and as 16 again said, fire it up!
Edgar, congrats on the new compressor and Happy Birthday
The only thing I had to do on my Craftsman Compressor was to open the petcock at the bottom of the tank and run it for 10 or 15 minutes (can't remember). It's just to clear any condensation/moisture before you hook up you tools.

Plans for it?
Tires/wheels
brakes
blow off dust on the engine
pool toys
Most air compressors require that you run them for 30 minutes with the valve open to break in the motor and parts.

Well, The compressor will not explode - It will just stop working while popping the breaker. I know. I was at my friends house and he did this. I read the instructions while he was trying to why the fuse would keep tripping. After the 4th time he decided to listen to me and the compressor has been working great since then. We sell Michelin air compressors. So far I have not seen any returns on them. They are also inexspensive. They will run any air tool you have and the compressor does not take up to much space.
have the same one opened drain and ran 5 min. reset presure th 80 pounds and let it cycle a few time's
happy B-day late
The one i have is the model before this one, I didnt get all the tools you have just a few. Let it run for 30 minutes and then use the air piece to blow away some dust and debris you may have lying around(test phase). After that you can do anything you want with it, the air gun is perfect for getting the tires on and off especially to clean all the rubber under the car. Enjoy it and remember anything that goes wrong with it bring it right back for a new one....
JD, you were early not late with my birthday wish...thanks again.
Okay, all rolling...first impressions...
yes the instructions said to run it with the valve on the bottom open for 15 minutes. Problem....might be me, but the instructions said open is counter clockwise....it is NOT. Counterclockwise brings the thingy down and closes it. How do I know, it shut off after building pressure during this break in period so I spun the other way and out comes the air..
funny how it brings 3 male disconnects but 4 tools that need them
don't understand the inflator/deflator tool...actually only how the deflator works
inflator deflator tool has a ring I don't know what it's for
impact gun said to oil but not sure where...on the right side it says oil but looks to be closed, on the left side there appears to be a hole for oil
the thing will do like 140 psi but the tools all say 90 psi, what will need more than 90? Painting?
this thing is heavy...not sure how my girls got it in the garage
I got new tires on the truck recently. I have not had a chance to check the torque on the nuts though I know they must be over torqued.
Got to one front wheel and one nut would not come off at full power of the gun. Went for the breaker bar (Ralph do you have it?) and could not find it so used the torque wrench. It came off pretty easy. Does this mean the impact gun is not very powerful?
Lesson two....regular sockets will not survive in the impact gun in that case is it got chipped inside. Guess I have to buy impact sockets for the wheels...hate it when a new toy forcess additional purchases.
Edgar, typically the tools that come with the compressor are junk. I still have all my originals that you can have should you desire some more junk. Go get yourself a good 1/2" impact gun, Ingressoll Rand makes some nice stuff. You also will need IMPACT sockets to use with the IMPACT gun. Notice how that works. NEVER use a torque wrench to loosen bolts You might need to replace that now as well. 140 psi would be for a sander, usually they use more pressure.
