I just bought a 84 auto vette with the crossfire and I was wondering what would it take for me to reach mid to hi 13s...I am converting the crossfire to carb...I would like to reach the 13s on street tires...any suggestions guys?
The Cross-Fire in my '82 is 9:1 from the factory (and I assume that yours is also ) with the junk 76cc heads:
a switch to 64cc heads will raise that to approx 10.2:1, if you run a good grade (93 octane ) gasoline.
Other typical small-block Chevy mods will work (camshaft, headers & exhuast, etc. ) along with your carb/intake swap:
I believe the pre-'87 style 700R4 transmissions are very-weak (mine failed behind a stock Cease-Fire ), so you want to consider an alternative (older-style THM400 of 200-4R ), and you'll probably want to change your rear-gear ratio into the 3.55/3.73 range (mine was 2.87 stock ).
Headers, full piping, and converter doesn’t sound so bad… I just want enough HP that I can run 13’s consistently…plus I never had a fast car, so this vette may do it for me…thanks guys for the info… anything else I can do to get me in the 13’s with out force induction

Port your intake. Not only is it by far, the single best bang-for-the-buck mod you can do to a CFI motor, but it's also the single biggest/best mod you can do (Power adder excluded) to a CFI motor.
Another ***** posting where he has no idea of what he's talking about. The 1984 and 1985 have but one catalytic converter. If the cat is in good condition, gutting or removal will provide little benefit.
