Default Staging Lane Question

For you guys running Drag Radials--when you go to a track for Test and Tune, they typically have a two lanes for slick tire cars, two lanes for street tire cars and so on. What lanes does the drag radial crowd here use. I usually get told to use the street tire lanes but on occasion Ive been told to go in the slick lanes.

If you're using drag radials/slicks you go to the drag radial/slick lane... Why would you go to the street tire lane?

Perhaps I don't understand the question?

Thats my confusion too--at times Ive been directed to use the street tire lanes even though Im running a drag radial. Maybe because Im not a big tired trailer queen?? I dont know.

According to the guy who calls the cars from the staging lanes to the burnout box at Cordova Dragway Park, drag radials are street tires because they are DOT legal tubelss radial tires.

My thought on this is if your car runs times consistant with the street car crowd (12.0 and up) then you should probably go in the street tire lanes unless you actually have slicks. If your car is running something crazy like 9.5 on drag radials, then you probably should run with the slick crowd. Just my $.02. Is there some other reason radials shouldn't run mixed in with the tube tire cars?

I've seen this street tire/slick tire lane come and go at many tracks, and it comes from guys complaining that the street tire cars "tear up the track" because their slick tire cars are having trouble hooking when in reality it probability is more of a track prep thing or their inability to adjust their car to a less sticky track. There are most likely more street tire cars racing at any given day than slick tire cars so in essence they pay the bills unless they are running studded snow tires they should be allowed to run on the same track as the pros FWIW I run slicks and Drag Radials on my bracket car and street car and if the hook is not there I adjust either driving style or adjust chassis.I don't BI*CH" about how other guys are"RUINING" the track
