I'll be going to Englishtown next month, and would like to know the best way to come off the line. My car is a bone-stock '08, A6, 2.73 gears with Michelin A/S runflats. In the past, I've run 12.74 @ 113.xx. Sixty foot times were all above 2.0. Since we only get 2 or 3 practice runs before the bracket racing starts, I won't have much time to experiment. My questions are: Tranny in D or S? T/C on or off? Ease into the throttle or nail it at the green? Thanks for any help.
Marc, I know it's early for you, but, you awake yet???
He's gonna be your best resource for your questions.
He is reviewing his notes.
Outside the box for bracket racing. Do everything the exact same way including wheel spin. ET won't be pretty but it can be done.
Your an (A6) with street tires..I know with my 05 that has an (A4) if I put the shifter in "2" the car will leave the line in 2nd gear.. & I won't have any wheel spin.. I don't know how the (A6) trans work..but IMO (for whats its worth) I don't like the idea of "Rolling Into the throttle" because you can unconsciously vary how fast you hit the gas...
Your biggest problem will be to keep from spinning on the street tires.. (Ask Marc) I know with my car I have left the line in second gear & it hooked fine but I had Drag Radials & my 60' was 2.01 If I leave in First gear my 60' is 1.63 - 1.65 with the MT drag radials...
I would like to say "nail it" but it might spin and you will be all over the place with your 60' times..so as you suggested "Rolling into the throttle" might be the best way, but can you cut consistent lights..
I know with my car I can "NAIL IT" on the last amber and my reaction times are usually .050 or better... but I don't have to worry about going "EASY" to prevent wheel spin (that will be your biggest problem)
I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help as my car is an (A4) vs your (A6) and they are totally different, & I'm on Drag Radials..I also have a 2800 converter, & with any type of street tires I'd spin like I was on a wet track..
I would suggest you make your 2 time trials, then in eliminations dial it soft just in case you do spin badly you will have something in the bank.. but remember IF you do hook your going to HAVE to let off and tap the break before the finish line..
I'm assuming you plan on entering a class Real Street, or some other bracket class..
If you are just going for time shots then you can play around on all of them to find the best way to leave with your set up..
