Default Racer Appreciation event...

I just got home from the racer appreciation event at Lakeland...weather was lovely..mid 80's with a 15 mph breeze...after last weekends passes I was looking forward to doing well...the devil car dashed all those hopes...

My first time shot the car did not want to idle...I nursed it through and went 7.146...we fooled with the carb back in the pits and thought we had it fixed...and I took the air cleaner off just for the halibut...nope...bad idle again and it dies when I lifted at the finish line...it went 7.138 and I nursed it back again...

While we were trying to figure it out, the car just quit...like I turned off the key which I didn't...my buddy happened to be looking at the carb at the time and saw the front bowl with foam in it...sheesh...boiling fuel?...vapor lock again?...the regulator was hot enough to fry eggs on...I decide to run it with the hood on and an open carb...no air box or air cleaner...

Anyway, first round is upon me so I throw a 7.13 on it and off I go...I catch a VW Beetle dialed 7.40...nice car, btw...he red eyes and I take the win and my car dies again at the finish line...

For round two we push the idle up to 1200 rpm so at least I did not have to worry about that part of the deal...now I get an old Monza dialed 7.40 also...I dial down to 7.12 based on my 330' from the
previous run...he leaves and I chase him down...he treed me .012 to my .028 but I catch him...the last 200' I look like a 90 year old guy driving a Sedan DeVille in Miami Beach...my chin is over the steering wheel and I never looked forward, only at his front end...I have his nose in my sights and drive the finish line as well as I can...

The funny part is I took the stripe with my cars snout by .001 or 2 but gave it back with my wheels by .003...sigh...the gen two Camaro's have real long front ends...oh well, my bad...I did have a nice day on the tree with lights of .017, .027, .018 and .028...

Meanwhile rick (96 Collector) was cracking the no box field..he made it to 6 cars when the rain hit and took home a nice piece of pie...he also made it to 6 in street...he was killing the tree...

I have no idea what we will do this week but I do know I have another event next Saturday in Orlando...I did figure out one thing I could do to fix this car...get at least a Cardinal to perform an exorcism because the car is clearly possessed...lol...

Hey Dan there is always something eh? Hope you get the carb demons sent back to hell. I used to have a 66 Mustang that I swear was the devils car, always a breakdown in some weird way & in places you didn't want to be. The final straw was when the inner fender started to tear off due to the control arms stressing out the area. Real Fn'n dangerous. I had a carb fire in it once, smoking burnt wires, electrical gremlins, & oil leaks from every possible place. It had a 302 engine that ran strong but loved to send hot water out to me when I suspected a funny anti freeze odor from inside the car. I swear I used to have dreams of this thing leaking fluids or having a flat tire only to wake up & find it was true. Scary stuff! I'm not kidding. When I sold it I gave full disclosure to the new owner & what I felt about the car. He bought it anyway. I was glad to get that thing out of my garage.
See you at OSW.

I really like racing at that track. When I was racing street I had the bye run for 2 rounds but had to race somebody when I pulled up they said somebody else had the bye I wasn't sure what that was about maybe they were going by reaction time oh well. I guess everybody has different rules at different tracks.

Its always good seeing you again Dan good luck at Orlando Speedworld next week.

It's too bad I have to work.

Looks like Very cool weather for Saturday. Dress appropriately. Should affect some lower ET's than expected with this unless the track gets a little slippery. Watch out for that fog at the 1000 ft.

Shouldn't be much fog...remember the gates open at 10AM...first pass probably won't be until 11:30 or so...it will be very chilly...54* for a high with a wind chill in the mid 40's...DA should be minus somethin'...

I really don't care to race in this cold of weather...the folks up north will laugh but for us it is about like 15* is to y'all...we may go faster but that is not necessarily a good thing in brackets...the cold track will be another issue...we rarely ever have to deal with that...

Nonetheless, I will see you there...I'm off to find my longjohns, no kidding...
