I am new to this forum after reading the posts for several weeks I decided to register. Mostly b/c the info is so good and it is very active. I am currently reconditioning/restoring a 1975 convertible. I rebuilt and installed a 400 sb several years ago. I was racing then on the local 1/8 mile strip. Now getting back into it everyone has gone to 1/4 mile dragstips. The best time with the new motor was 8.6 @ 80.8 mph with a 1.97 60' time. I want to rebuild the drivetrain to run in the 12's on street tires. My first question is if anyone can tell me what 1/4 mile times I would have with the 8.6 sec 1/8 mile time and then what I can do to drop my time? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for the welcome and the quick responses. Ralf low 13's look about right according to the old run times of Mr. MoJo. THat was very informative. I have learned a lot already. I just found out that my car still has the stock 2.73 highway gears. Those will have to go and I hope it will help.
Time to switch up to 3.23s or 3.55s at least, you won't lose your driveability and I think you'll get the 12s you're looking for. I am in the middle of a quest to get low 12s from 2.73s but I think I'll be more the exception than the rule.
