Working on some interior things for my 98 C5 that I'm going dedicated drag on. Has anyone removed the dash for weight savings and gone custom gauges? I have HP tuners so I was thinking of using a small tablet for the stuff I can pull from the ODB2 then have some custom gauges for things like fuel pressure, AFR, etc. Open to ideas here!
I’m working on something like that with my car. I removed the factory cluster from the dash and I’m building an aluminum plate to mount various gauges in. It will fit with the factory dash pad and in the OEM location. I’m also installing a stack in the center since I’ve removed the HVAC and Radio control.
It’s still a work in progress. I’m hoping to get a lot done next month. I have a thread started in the C5 FI section. There’s not much in it yet, as the car is still at the chassis shop.
I am reminded that VFN makes a C4 dash that is supposed to fit the C5/C6. I asked for pictures from installs, but they didn't have any. I asked to be put in touch with any customer that has used it... Crickets...
I have also seen a Fox Body mustang fiberglass dash made to fit a C5.
I don't know how much it's worth though. The C5/C6 dash pad isn't very heavy.
Capthuff what about the traction control mode and driver info center? I am thinking through how to handle things like how to tell if the car goes into limp mode,
Well, for a racecar where you want the dash in and out quickly my builder made flanges around the windshield to hold the front edge. It was a little short of the windshield so he made the metal part longer. I don't know the exact amount of time to make them but I'd probably say the whole job took 2-3 days.
As for it meeting into the door panels perfectly like a C5 dash.....no it doesn't
