Is it possible to put on M/T ET streets 26 x 11,5 - 16 on a C5 WITHOUT having to modify anything. I do not want to do any grinding to any arms in the rear, what rims should I use in that case???
Nitrovette and I were just talking about this via IM. I found a post using search and had some questions.
According to nitro it will require a little grounding on the rear calipers. I'm going to try to pick up a pair cheap and, try them out and see. It'll probably be a couple of weeks before I get to it. If you try it first, let me know how it goes.
Would it not be possible just to put some "spacers" in instead to get the rim further "outwards" if you know what I mean (my english is not the best...) That is what I have been thinking about.
Something I saw during my search for the 16" rim article recommended NOT using spacers. Try searching the archives and body message on 16 inch wheels under C5 performance. Browse the subjects regarding wider wheels, etc.
Another thing I'm thinking about is, a buddy at work has an f-body w/ 17" wheels. I'm thinking the 17" may go on with out the grinding. He says they'll fit the vette, now do ET streets come in 17"?
Tried the archive but I did not find what I was looking for.
I really would like to know the reason why not to use spacers !!!!!!!!!
I think I will go with spacers, a friend of mine drives a Ford F150 Lightning and he use spacers for his rims with Hoosier tires when dragracing and that has worked well all summer.
Please explain to me why I should not use spacers or else I will use them ?
I just ran the search again and I guess the server is busy, nothing came back and, I'm at work and have to go. I'll try to do it again over the weekend. I don't want to give you bad information but, as near as I remember from what I read, if you want to use spacers, you need to have something custom made. I don't remember what that was about.
Remember your friend with the F150, has a solid rear axil. What works for him may not work on your C5 independent rear suspension.
The first thing that comes to my mind when I give it some thought is, with the spacers you may increase the loading on the rear wheel bearings beyond design limits.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge or at least a better memory will step in here and correct any misconceptions I may have.
