Default A Quickie...

I went to Palm Beach today for their Summit Super Series event...this was my 5th of the year qualifying me for the division finals in September...I will not race again until Sept. 7th back at Palm Beach...summer is my off season...the heat index around here is well over a 100* all summer and I don't need that...anyway, Mike and I arrived at 3PM and the heat index was 104*...sigh...we were not there 10 minutes and the rain came...soaked everything...it blew over in about an hour so they dried the track...

They finally called us up for our one and only time shot...I hit the lanes and, while waiting, I began to get queezy and faint...it was the heat...a buddy told me the heat index was back up to 106*...I somehow made my pass and went 6.647 with a slow 41 light...I got back in my Yuke, cooled off and drank a lot of water...they then called us up for first round of elims...

I lined up with a friend in his 98 Camaro.....he dialed 8.11 and I put 6.64 on my board...I felt I staged a bit off on my time shot and thought I might a go a bit quicker...he left green and so did I...I got to the stripe without throwing up in the car which was amazing...I was not in good shape...his win light came on....the slip said it was a double break out but I was way under going 6.610...I stopped before the time slip shack and rolled down my window...y'all know why...I held it in and got back to my pit and into the AC...drank a bottle of water but still felt lousy...btw, he was .066 on the tree and I was .004...no biggie at that point so we loaded up and hit the road....I knew not to buy back given the way I felt...

I am home now and feel a lot better...so that's it for a while...we will pull my motor shortly and freshen it up...I am going to put double adjustable shocks all the way around as well...I felt like I could have hurt some feelings tonight but it was not meant to be...oh yeah, Mike was .005 red and decided not to buy back either...see y'all in September...

Dan,

Please take care of yourself during the down time. Truer words were never spoken than "you have nothing if you don't have your health". The heat is killer on us old (not in the greatest of shape) guys. I was going to take the '12 GS to Sunday T&T today but decided not to go due to the heat and chance of rain. I am now shooting for Wed or Fri night. As the song goes: "See you in September ".

Dan, listen to your body, we're not getting any younger! Big reason I stopped racing, it was just too much!

I am at a point now that I had to address certain issues to keep racing and simply living...I am doing so and will hopefully be in a lot better shape in a few months...I will update everyone down the road...

Dan,

Good for you. I need to take better care of myself and you have provided me some inspiration. "If it were easy everybody would do it:".
