Default 5-Point Restraint?

I just found out I can run down to 11.5 in my vert as long as I have a 5-point restraint :D

So what's the scoop?

Do I need a new seat, and if so, is Sparco the only option?

If not, how and who can modify the seat?

And where can I get belts?

thanks

I got my belts from Jegs. I got the G-Force camlock belts. No you don't need a new seat but don't you need a bar? The sholder belts have to mount ot something.

Also, I know IHRA rules allow 11.5 without a bar but I thought for the vert to get this rule you had to run a hardtop (at least NHRA rules).

First step for a Vette is a roll bar! Unless you invest in a removable hardtop. :yesnod:

thanks Al but I really wanna avoid that at all costs and Bradenton allows me to run to 11.5 with the restraints, hence the question :)

thanks....and yes, I need to attach it to something and was hoping to see options of those as well, all I saw was West Coast Corvettes :)

Bradenton has posted rules and I'm just going by what they say...they're definitely not as strict as most tracks :D

Stock seat works, but as a vert you will possiblt need a bar. Email Dave to clarify. If not a setup like ours works great! Crossbar & RJS belts. (I'll give you the part# if needed, it is at home.) Easy install! Look at ours close this Sat!!

Mark if you are allowed to run without the roll bar then the should belts will go on a bar that can be mounted from sholder bolt to sholder bolt.

Like the Hardbar or Crossbar.

Do a search in our mall here for "harness bar" and you will find three different ones.

Ecklers, Mid America, etc. all offer these bars that bolt in behind the seats to allow attaching a five point set of belts. You can also mount a video camera to them. I guess you could get one with a chrome finish, or the usual black. That would work great if you get the gears and converter, and whatever else. At some point tho I would want a roll bar if I was in a rag top doing 110+mph in the quarter! See ya in a couple days! :seeya

Sides usally mount to the floor bolts I think.

The front belt you either drill a hole by a bar that attaches to the two front seet bolts and has a bolt in the center for the belt. Hardbar sells this.

why bother mounting belts good if you do not have a roll bar just use some duct tape,or crazy glue them to the carpets. :)

Ron that is just wrong man.

Many road racers use 5 or 6 point and the mount to the seatbelt mount bolts and to a harness bar. Nothing like being held snug in your seat while making sharp turns

It might be a little wrong but would you feel safe going in the 11's WITHOUT a bar???? NHRA makes rules for a reason bro and if you don't care about them cause somebody will let you"slip by" then why even bother attempting to please them.
?

I went to the Bradenton web site to look for rules, but I couldn't find where they post class requirements, or safety equipment rules. Just for the record, NHRA requires a 5 point bar and a 5 point "restraint" system on any hard top car running 11.99. Same requirements for convertibles running 13.99. Good luck, and...

RACE ON!!!

Yes I agree safety comes first but IHRA is 11.49 for a rollbar so is NHRA more safe or IHRA reckless?

I don't really like the letting slide by either.

PS, I don't feel more safe running 12.01 vs 11.99 with a bar.

Edgar,
The IHRA rule is 13.49 for verts. I want to see ALL the safety rules complied with! And so do several sponsors!

Mark, I have no issues with you or any other of the FCC racers! I HAVE issues with made up rules that serve only to indanger fellow racers! The IHRA & NHRA have established rules to keep our sport as safe as possable. We as drag racers should strive to follow these and stay safe in a not-always safe sport. In my 20+ yrs of drag racing, I have seen terrible accidents and many lived to race another day.........because the RULES were inforced!
Have you ever seen a C5 vert with the shiney side down? Not a pretty site!
Mark, my issues are not against you, their to protect you.
