I have a 93 c-4 and would like to know what you suggest to hook the straps to when trailering. On the front I went around the section of the frame that extends up to the radiator support. On the rear I went around the lower control arm and criss crossed the straps. I worry if this configuration is hard on the car.
i do not have a trailer but my car has been trailered several times and the criss-cross rear tie down as you described is a must to keep car from shifting sideways...my guess is you are very observant and have a good system figured out...good luck.
I also have not personally trailered my C4. But I would think that on the rear, you'd be better off if you could find something on the chassis to connect to. I think if the tightening of the straps compresses the spring, somewhat, you'll get more down force. Criss crossing the straps is good.
On the C5 the four jacking points are also shipping hook points where I put in a t-hook and strap it to the hooks. Not sure if the C4 has these. Sorry.
The C4 also has those shipping tie down points that can be used with T-hooks. They are behind and to the inside of the front wheels....and in front of and to the inside of the rear wheels.
I know several guys with open trailers that use these, but I have an enclosed trailer so they would be hard to reach. I just do the back on the lower control arms and the front on the lower A arms..

I have an open trailer and use straps that connect to the wheels. A big towing service in Maryland recommended them to me. About 5000 miles/30 trips of towing in the past year with 0 problems.

Im going to look for those factory tiedowns. I have rented a u-haul trailer before and the over the wheel straps are nice. But I havnt been able to find those anywhere for sale like they have. Again Thanks to everyone for their input.
93 ragtop,
I got my straps from BA Products Company, 8925 McGaw Ct. Columbia, MD 21045 http://www.baprod.com Toll Free: (800) 327-3301. They have both kinds of straps.
I have a '94 Coupe and use axle straps attached in the front around the lower "A" arm then I "X" them across the trailer. In the back I use the same type of axle strap and attach it around the lower control arm but I do not "X" the rear straps. I use to "X" the rears but the strap would rub against a spot on the rear of the Vette and started to wear on the strap. Bought new straps to use in the rear and I have had no issues since.
I even got to involuntarily test the tie down method this past March when towing up to Englishtown on I-95 a merging car hit the brakes in front of me and I couldn't get the track/trailer/Corvette stopped in time. Hit the guy doing about 40 MPH - bent the hell out of the front bumper on my Ford 150 P/U but Corvette and trailer stayed together and safely behind me. P/U and trailer got towed away and I drove the Corvette home. I'm not suggesting this as a testing method but I'm confident the straps will hold.
