It depends what class you are racing. Is it IHRA or NHRA? The NHRA requires you to use a hemet with a Snell rating of 90 or better. The faster the class, the more stringent the safety requierements are. I currently wear a Snell 2000 rated helmet. Try to buy the best helmet that you can afford. In the event of a serious accident, money will not matter, but the quality of your helmet will. What is your brain worth?

I've never seen DOT rated helmets allowed at IHRA or NHRA tracks...minimum is Snell 90 at both...be careful though, some tracks have started requiring Snell 95 or newer...have fun...
