Corvette Challenge Rules at E-Town
First & foremost.... If there's questions that need answering that are not being addressed in the staging lanes or "around the wall, don't be shy.... go directly to room #104 in the tower and ask to speak to a manager. Most of the time issues will be resolved right away. Whenever possible, questions should be asked BEFORE a race is run when corrections can be made before any damage is done.
When I'm working in the lanes for the East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge, there are a few things that will remain constant until Mackey/Redgar tells me something different. I wish i could be there for all the races but I cannot. However, I will address all of these concerns with whoever may be working in my absence to help maintain some consistancy in regards to what the racers can expect.
If you see me "working" you can bet on the following:
Pairings done in the lanes are final. Before or after a ladder, if your opponent cannot make it to the starting line you will have a comp single. If cars somehow get re-arranged going around the wall, they will be corrected by an official. If you see your opponent moving elsewhere, SPEAK UP & it will be corrected. This strict pairing is done to keep the pairing out of the drivers hands to prevent "games" from being played. Drivers will move around for many reasons. Theyre not happy with the lane theyre in, they don't want to race a friend, they dont want to race a "heavy hitter", theyre "duck hunting" for a newbie in an attempt to score an "easy kill" as well as several other less honorable reasons I will not advertise
. Regardless of the reasons, your pair is your pair until you cross the finish line. This is how it's done on Sundays also. **This also counts when youre in the lanes. If youre parked there & last years Champion or whoever happens to pull in next to you, don't pull out & go to the end of the line. Just focus on whats going on inside your own helmet & you'll have a better chance of winning. Bye's/Comp Singles: As a courtesy, or display of sportsmanship it is asked that if your opponant is having trouble, please wait & give him/her a chance to get it together. The bye run, if there is one, will be the last car down the track for any given round. Most "good sports" will wait until right before the bye goes out to give the other person a chance to get ready unless it's obvious that a few minutes will not make a difference. (Like the connecting rods are poking through the hood). Some drivers will wait, some feel it's "be ready when the bell rings or youre done"
Lane choice: is decided by position on the Ladder. The higher placed car has lane choice. In Pre-Ladder rounds it's decided by the drivers. 99% of the time usually with a coin toss if both want the same lane or a simple 10 second conversation between the drivers takes care of this

& now that the racers have spoken, it's time for a track official to make some suggestions to the racers
#1 STAY with your car when it's in the staging lanes & move up when your lanes moves.
#2 Please see #1
#3 Please see #2
See ya at the races !!!
Joe
"stay with your car"......hmmmm where have i heard that before...LOL

I was one of the guys in the first round mismatch. I dont know what happen, i think someone broke in front of me, so i wast sure what to do. the guy looked at my number and the other driver, shruged and made us race. so i just went, i didnt know the official rules. i just did what they said.

I'll also comment on the lane choice since you brought it up. There have been PLENTY of races where the official will pair 2 cars and then tell them to swap lanes!!! WTF!

However I've seen this change also....I really wouldn't get overly concerned, as Edgar, Dennis, Bob, & the track WILL get some firm rules established..

The way it works is the first car in the lane to the official will have either lane choice or keep the lane he is in (odd left, even right) and the next car will have to move to the other lane.
Other than that, I don't know of when they will make you switch.
Oh yeah one other. In rounds where a bye is held out to the end (ie first or second) that car will have lane choice over the last car in the lanes.
