Very interesting! A six-speed PLANETARY manual that shares a lot of parts with the six-speed autos. Wish they had listed the available ratio sets, but I suppose they are the same as the autos, and I guess "wide ratio" means something on the order of 3.5 to 0.5:1.
I just heard that the new Cadillac XLR-V is getting the new six-speed auto that we knew was in the pipeline, but I had no idea that a six-speed manual of the same architecture was in the works.
Whats this about? We already have a 6-speed manual. Is this some hybrid ... ie. semi-automatic ... called a hydramatic/manual? Will it fire 6 shots w/o reloading ... ie. reclutching?
In drag racing the primary planetary manual transmission is a Lenco. Clutch for launch, clutchless upshifts. The Lenco design biases it for upshifts, it does not downshift as easily. See www.zeroshift.com for the future of manual transmissions. The Hydra-Matic planetary 6 speed should see use on light trucks - it is a mpg enhancing feature vs. the automatic transmission. It should be friendlier to use than the current light truck manual transmission - the current light truck manual transmission is not very popular.
Well lord knows Im not one to blaspheem,but,...............any improvment will be welcome! we do not,... have the trans. at least in the C-5 that we could have had. although I must admit that I just instaled the c.a.g.s relay(TO FAKE OUT THE SKIP SHIFT) and then last week I put the "Hurst" billet short throw shifter and well you simply wouldnt belive it so I guess for my part it begs the qustion,.....why did'nt it come this way??????....If you still have a stock shifter in your C-5 there is some good news awaiting you

Now you got my attention with that Hurst billet. Bet it will knock 0.3 tenth off your ET's
